Feeling Beachy

Feeling Beachy : wedding engagement pictures seattle E0107 S

Photos in the ocean always look so fun! Image by Apertura.

Our engagement shoot is in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico, when we are on vacation next week. Such an opportunity is only occurring because our photographer is a friend and former college roommate. Remember that whole “use your resources” kick I am on? Professional wedding photographers just happen to be one of my resources.

That game plan:
The morning of the shoot we’ll take the bus into town and shoot for a few hours. I hope to find an outdoor market and some fun alleyways to explore. I hate looking like a sweaty mess so we’ll take a break in the middle of the day when it’s all hot and rainy and gross. We’ll resume shooting sometime after dinner and finish the evening all wet and sandy on the beach as the sun goes down.

Now for my outfits. Would you mind helping me choose which outfit would be best for our photo adventures? Vote yes on the outfits you think I should wear, no on the ones I should avoid. It would be best to vote yes for only two outfits, because voting yes for all of them doesn’t really help me with my decision.

Outfit #1
The puffy sleeves might be a little trendy, but I love the bright color. Do you think my sweaty armpits will just soak right through the material?

Outfit #2
This outfit isn’t quite as bright and colorful as the first, but it’s sweet. The neckline makes me feel young and pretty.

Step #3
I’m still bolero hunting for this dress, but it’s so beachy and bright. Who wouldn’t want to splash around in the waves and frolic in the sand while wearing this?

Outfit #4
I’m not keeping the shoes. So try not to fall in love with them like I aleady have. This dres is all nauticul and preppy, it even has little anchors on the buttons. I ordered cheapie $15 white flats from Target after I admitted to myself that the mustard colored flats just weren’t working.

I love the last outfit. Very cute and timeless. And the shoes go perfectly. it gives it an unexpected pop of color, (that will look awesome with the surroundings of Mexico). Also the details on the empire waist are great. it makes your waist look tiny!.

I voted “no” on the other ones and I want to explain why.

I love the blue shirt in the first one but the capri pants really cut off your body and don’t do your cute shape any justice. (same for the second outfit).
Also I’ve heard it from photographers over and over that they don’t suggest wearing prints in photoshoots because small prints get lost and large prints detract from the picture.
I voted no on the 3rd outfit becuase of the print thing and because I think the dress makes you look a little boxy and doesn’t do your figure any justice, (like the nautical dress does)

I’m not trying to be critical. Just giving my opinion. good luck with your decision and let us know which outfits you decide on.

I voted no on the first outfit because I think the proportions of the shirt and capris together don’t work quite right. The second one is better and very cute if you’re going more casual.
The third one looks very cute on you, but I agree with the above comment that it’s too busy for photos- it might detract from your face.
The nautical dress is PERFECT! And please, keep the yellow shoes! So much more interesting and fun than matchy white ones!

I think that the mustard shoes look really great with that navy dress in the last outfit!

Outfit #4 gives you shape, shape, shape! It is also classic and timeless! The others are cute but will most likely not be what you would want to see in 5 - 10 years! :-)

I voted for the 2nd and 4th outfits. They’re cute, and the most timeless, I think.

I *love* the yellow flats with the blue dress!

I like #4 the best and I would keep the yellow shoes. I think that solids tend to look best in pictures, so I would keep away from the prints.

I think #1 and #3 are the best. Yes, you look young in #2, but maybe a little too much so. (And white shirt in the water???) #4 is cute, but I think #3 actually looks better on you.

I like 3 & 4 best … 3 just screams Mexico to me with those bright colors and you look adorable in 4!!

I agree with everyone for the most part - except for the yellow shoes. I was relieved when you said you weren’t keeping them. Not that I have a problem with yellow, but to me they just stick out in the wrong way, and might detract attention from you in the pictures. White flip flops are definitely more beachy!

And if those are the only four options for outfits, then by process of elimination, number 2 should be the second one :)

the fourth is without a doubt the best! i also like the capri outfits, but i think the blue dress is adorable, no doubt about it! the third outfit is just too busy, i think.

I loved #2 and #4.

The sleeves on #1 are a little TOO puffy and the bottom is too blousy and shapeless. Love the color of that top, though.

The dress in #3 has a cute print, but I don’t think it’s flattering. Kinda makes you look disproportionate which you are obviously not based on the other two outfits.

I don’t think the pattern in the shirt in #2 is a problem because it’s small and not terribly bright.

Your pictures are going to be amazing! I voted for the 1st and 4th outfits but I like the 2nd one too. I’m not too keen on the dress, I think it’s the print that’s throwing it off. Good luck!
