Bridesmaid Dresshopstravaganza!

July 22nd, 2008 @ 5:43 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

A few months ago, I visited Flirty Bridesmaid in her Bay Area hometown for a fun girlfriend’s weekend. We don’t get to see each other often as she travels a ton for work - so we’ll use any official sounding excuse to make plans for a weekend. Usually we spend the majority of it shopping for clothes, eating homemade fajitas and walking her pup Boston, with a teensy bit of errand running. This particular weekend was no exception, as this time our excuse was to go check out this amazing little bridesmaids’ dress boutique in San Francisco called And Something Blue.

And Something Blue carries a few choice Bridesmaid dress brands like Vera Wang, Thread, Nicole Miller and Coren Moore. It also happens to be awesome for two additional reasons. One, it’s got a sister shop right next door called Brown Eyed Girl which has fabulous clothing and jewelry to get your mind off of bridesmaid dress disagreements and on to non-wedding shopping bliss. Which brings me to reason number two, it also happens to be a short gander from the Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique. ’Nuff said.
The beautiful Flirty Bridesmaid was gracious enough to model her cute little figure wearing some of our favorite And Something Blue finds. We tried to find shapes and details to match each of the girl’s personalities, as each girl will choose her own black, tea-length dress.

The Maid of Honor

Vera Wang 20M11
Satin spaghetti strap dress with draped bodice, bubble hem skirt and black velvet ribbon.

The Crafty Bridesmaid
z15626004
Can’t remember the exact maker of this dress, but it’s similar to the Thread Edan.
Knee length empire waist with jewel neck.

The Flirty Bridesmaid
z15626003
Coren Moore Nolan
Strapless dress in shantung with rouched sweetheart neckline and coordinating sash.

The Blonde Bridesmaid
z15626002
Coren Moore Avery

Taffeta strapless dress with bubble hem skirt and coordinating sash.

The Sister Jr. Bridesmaid
z15626001
Coren Moore Lily
Ruffled trapeze neckline in shantung silk with coordinating sash.

The SIL Jr. Bridesmaid
z156260

Vera Wang 19M10

Lame square neckline dress with pleated bodice, contrasting sash and bubble skirt.

Imagine all of these dresses in black - while that may make them less distinct, I just love all of the different shapes, each telling the personality of its wearer. We chose the Vera Wang and Coren Moore bubble hem dresses for my Maid of Honor and Blonde Bridesmaid, as that hem style was what they fell in love with at our first dress fitting.

The Thread Edan dress is a given, as Crafty Bridesmaid is my artsy, hippie-esque friend and would totally dig the exotic look of the notched jewel neck.

Flirty Bridesmaid chose the Coren Moore Nolan as her favorite (the last Vera Wang as her runner up) due to the awesome flattering nature of the ruched sweetheart neckline and well, it’s got POCKETS (as do most of the Coren Moore dresses) - how cool is that?!

Lastly, the dresses chosen for the Jr. Bridesmaids were more modest. I absolutely loved the ruffled trapeze neckline of Sister Pom’s Jr. Bridesmaid Coren Moore dress, and I felt that the square ruched neckline of SIL Pom’s Jr. Bridesmaid Vera Wang dress would look great on her athletic figure.

Of course, a few of the girls have already found their dream dress and none of them were purchased at And Something Blue. However, I found these bridesmaid dress finds to be too awesome not to share. If you have any questions regarding any of the above dresses, please let me know. I was able to get a good look at them up close and I assure you, all of the ones chosen for this post were of the utmost quality.

Are any of you having your bridesmaids choose their own dresses?

Woo-hoo..Flirty Bridsmaid is famous! They all look fun Miss Pom…my favorite is SIL Jr’s dress.

I picked out the dress for the girl’s, but they are picking their own shoes and jewelry.

the whole bm dress deal for me was a nightmare, and i really considered having them pick their own dresses (as i would appreciate that if i was a bm!) but it worked out to be easier how we ended up doing it. i bought their shoes too but told them it’s just a courtesy thing and they don’t have to wear them. black is absolute the best color to do the ‘pick your own dress’ thing, good job pommie!

Hi Pom, I’m letting my girls choose their own style and shade within my color palette. Both my girls are of different ethnicities, skin tone color, personality, and body types! So wanting to make sure that they actually love what they are wearing, I’ve agreed to let them choose, as long as I get to approve. :) It has caused a raise in my stress level midst planning… but I know that if they love the dress they are wearing… they’ll be able to enjoy being special guests of honor at the wedding!

I’m having my maids pick their own dresses, too. Early on I worked with my maid of honor to find a designer that we liked, was high quality, but also wouldn’t break anyone’s wallet. I told them the two colors they could choose from and the length and they all went from there. It was great for us because my maids all have VERY different body types, so there was no way I was going to find one dress that flattered all of them. And I think they really liked being able to choose which color (purple or gray) they were going to wear.

@davndee09: I wanted to quote prices - but I literally JUST found the card about 15 minutes ago. The dresses shown above are in the $150 - 350 price range. If you have a question about any specific dress, let me know!

I love the Coren Moore Avery! Alas, I do not have enough bridesmaids (1, to be exact) to do a bulk order, but that’s ok.
