Find a Dress for Mrs. Bee Part 2

July 22nd, 2008 @ 2:45 pm by Mrs. Bee

After going through all your suggestions, I purchased the following dress from Cache — a shop I would never have checked out if it weren’t for you! :)

I recently dyed my hair red, so I thought a blue dress would really complement my new hair color.  Mr. Bee really liked the dress (I almost always ask for his opinion) so I found a coupon online and purchased it.

It fits perfectly and the cut is very flattering, but I’m not sure it’s really right for a wedding. Is it too… sexy? I’m going to be in a lot of family photos(because our family is tiny) so I want to make sure I look nice. :) It’s going to be an adults only, indoor, evening wedding at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

What do you think — should I keep looking?

PS - I’ve started a dress wiki with all the awesome stores you guys suggested.  Please feel free to edit it, or comment below with any stores you think we should add!

what kind of wedding is it? what time of day? semi-formal, formal, black tie? Is it indoors or outdoors?

It is a great dress but I think it looks a little “businessy” for a wedding…

I think it’s a gorgeous dress and as long as girls are ….contained…. I don’t think it would be too sexy. I’d say go for it!

Miss Pinot Noir - Where do you work? I would get some INTERESTING looks if I work that to work! =)

Mrs. Bee - As long as you are not bursting out of the top, and the skirt makes it past your finger tips (hopefully more towards knee-length) I think you are safe from the “too sexy” problem. It is a beautiful dress, Mr. Bee liked it, you’ll feel sexy (but not overly so) and you’ve already bought it with a coupon! I say wear it!

I love this dress. I think it’s sexy yet chic and sophisticated. I think it would be great for in indoor evening wedding. The only reservations I personally have is if there is a specified dress code. Like if the invitation said formal or black tie I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing this because I don’t think it’s dressy enough. But I think it’s perfect for a semi formal wedding.

I agree that it looks very sophisticated with a little sexiness…I really think the true test is how it looks on you and makes you feel…sometime a dress looks very ordinary on the hanger, but looks HOT when it’s on the right person. POST A PICTURE :)

Btw, my bridesmaid dresses were purchased from Cache (never thought that would happen, but I was at the mall and saw it in the window).

You can never go wrong with a little sexy dress. It is definately not too sexy, especially for orange county. If there will be a lot of younger people attending, then there will be a lot of skin bareing. The performing arts is pretty nice though so I would dress it up a bit with jewlery and/or shoes

@Mrs. Bee: Definetly sexy too but I too was thinking something more flowy… I agree with indecisivebride - strike a pose and post a picture. That is the best test!

@mdarrah: Haha! I wouldn’t wear it to my work but there is something about the cut and the belt that make me think business…

I adore the OCPAC and I think the dress would be perfect for an evening wedding reception there.

I thought I posted a comment with some flowy dress suggestions (new from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale) but it didn’t post. Hmmm…well here’s another that is belted like the Cache dress, but flowy…and the model has red hair :)

i like the dress but… i don’t think it’s wedding material. i agree. something flowy. how about betsy johnson? i know she’s not for everyone but she does have some “calm” dresses.

I love it… I want it! I have red hair too (dyed bright auburn) and I think that’d really be a really amazing color combo!

I think that structured dresses work at weddings so long as your hairstyle and accessories are more relaxed. I think it’s cute!

I agree with Pom. If you wore that dress with your hair down and curly, it would look perfect. Its a hot dress!

I LOVE the color!

If you are concerned about the “businessy” aspect, you could replace the belt with a pretty scarf to soften the look a little.

Personally, I like the big belt look. I’d go with some bold earrings in silver and maybe a bracelet, but skip a necklace so it doesn’t compete with the belt.

the color, the cut, and the fit of the dress is so beautiful and flattering, but i think the square belt does give it a business dress feeling.

i think if you remove the belt and tie the thick satin ribbon w/ the same blue shade or even black, making a bow in the back, it would give your dress a party feeling. add a brooch to the bow to take it up a notch.
