Some of you may have been asking yourselves, was that ‘newest bee’ intro I read last week just another one of those crazy wedding dreams I’ve been having lately? It’s been six days and still no peep out of this so-called “Miss Sea Breeze”?!
I know, I know, I’m guilty. I actually almost had a heart attack today when I casually glanced at Canada’s leading national newspaper only to see the alarming headline: ‘The buzz over disappearing bees‘ (I swear, I am not making this up. Of course this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with me but what can I say? I have a, um, very active imagination).
I hope you’ll forgive me for being tardy, but I promise to make up for it. In fact, the reason I’m late to the scene is that I was spending the last few days having all sorts of cross-border crazy wedding-shopping experiences that I can’t wait to tell you about!
But first things first: a little story to set the scene…
One evening not long after Mr. Sea Breeze and I got engaged, I was on the phone with my mom and we got to talking about the wedding (oh alright, who are we kidding, that’s all we talked about). Mr. Sea Breeze was doing his usual background bantering, where he randomly (and loudly) comments on the one-sided conversation he is hearing, usually in the form of cheeky one-liners.
(Random Mr. Breezy Fact #1: He can be quite the ham. Come to think of it, ‘Breezy’ rhymes with ‘Cheesy’. Coincidence? I’m thinking NOT.)
This time around, we were talking about venue possibilities. Mr. Sea Breeze and I live in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, however, apart from just a few people, the rest of our immediate family and bestest friends live in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Miami, London and Hong Kong. This presented us with quite the conundrum: where on Earth (literally) would we get married?
As Mama Breeze and I mulled this over, Mr. Sea Breeze blurted out in his usual witty fashion: “Let’s have a destination wedding!”
To which I rolled my eyes and my adorable Polish mother (shout-out to fellow perogi lover Miss Avocado!) cutely asked in her accented voice: “What is a…des-tin-ation wedding?”
I opened my mouth to answer her…and realized that I didn’t really know what to tell her.
I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been to a destination wedding…let alone one at an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean, which is what Mr. SB was alluding to.
Obviously I’ve learned a lot since then and his nutty suggestion has become a reality. We’re getting married this November at the gorgeous Majestic Colonial Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
I’m so excited to share with you all I’ve learned so far (it’s a LOT) and to get your thoughts on all that’s yet to come.

(A less-than-flattering picture of yours truly, but it totally captures our silliness so I guess I’ll suck it up. Photo by Duane Storey.)
Oh, and if you hadn’t guessed it already, the name “Sea Breeze” not only refers to our lovely tropical wedding destination, but to the fact that I can sometimes (Mr. SB would say, “often”) be quite long-winded. ![]()
Welcome, Miss Sea Breeze! I’m excited to hear more about your destination wedding!
