Glamnuptials: Decor Elements

July 24th, 2008 @ 2:57 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

If there is one thing I loved about our wedding, was definitely our decor elements. Everything was perfect, from the photo corner to our menus. I know I went crazy with the details, but at least our guests pointed out how beautiful everything was. Hurray, I’ve accomplished what I wanted!

The overall feel and look that I wanted for our reception site was easy: vintage and glam. The wedding show people did a great job of adding some extra glamour elements to the decor, but the hard work paid off.

This is a last minute DIY project - I made reserved seating cards for Mr. Flamingo and I using the same elements as our invitations. I opted for Bride & Groom, because in french, Bride = Mariée and Groom = Marié; it’s not much of a difference.  I used ivory satin ribbon to attach the cards to the back of the chair.

I had mentioned wanting to have inexpensive linens or something in chocolate brown to cut the white linens that were provided by the venue. Well with lots of research and very little time left to the wedding, I came to the realization that nice/inexpensive wasn’t possible. So I decided to DIY our table decor. I opted for table runners (to cut costs) but I didn’t have time to take pictures, and I don’t know if I would have because let’s just say I can’t sew for my life. Actually I can’t even cut a long length of material in a straight line. So ya, I wasn’t too proud they weren’t very straight. ;) (But no one noticed - luckily.)

Our beautiful menus. Every guest got a menu carefully tucked in their napkin. I printed them in brown to add some extra color to the table and the type was in ivory. Our menus were long and narrow to add length to the place seating, and were written in French, English and Italian.

Our guests liked our centerpieces but loved our table numbers. In my flickr account, where our guests uploaded their pictures, I have over 10 shots of just our table numbers. I’m glad they liked them, because I LOVED them and it’s heartbreaking when you work so hard on something and no one pays attention.

The escort card tree was such a beautiful piece. The tv show actually installed spots at the bottom of the tree so when it got darker the crystal swags would shine. What I loved too, is that they made the bottom match our centerpieces. They used square mirrors to surround the pot and added sticker rhinestones for the glam.

The photo area was great and we took lots of pictures with our friends and family. We had rented the lamp posts, but didn’t know how to place them in our hall. The wedding show rented bushes and placed it as though it seemed we were outdoors. We kept the bench (we bought it from Wal-Mart) so I’m excited to put in outside once we have our first house.

Whats your favorite decor element at your wedding?

@greenwichgirl: They were supplied by the venue. So they didnt cost me a thing.

@Jules: Thanks! I printed them on a laser printer at work. So other than the cardboard paper, it didnt cost me a thing.

Very elegant/glam. LOVE IT!

The table numbers are IN-SANE too!

Where’d you score the big pillar candles from? I need some on the cheap cause they’ll prolly just get pitched after.

Oh my goodness, this is gorgeous! I have been having a recent freak out because all we have is white linens, I’ve been fine with this the whole time, but wishing we could maybe find a way to integrate more of our ’40s theme somehow… I JUST came up with making runners… I figure they’ll cost abou $8 a piece, which is cheaper than a lot of things anyway… I’m glad to see that this made a huge difference at your wedding and looked gorgeous! Yay!

I just bought a quilt cover at IKEA that I’m making into 16 table runners. IKEA has fun prints and for a king size cover it was only $25. That’s just $1.56 per runner!
