Rockin’ Wedding Gifts…Literally

July 24th, 2008 @ 11:25 am by Mrs. Espresso

A month after Mr. Espresso and I got engaged, we were lucky enough to receive our first wedding present. We hadn’t even thought of setting up a registry yet and we were already getting gifts- so awesome! My Maid of Honor and her boyfriend bought us tickets to go see (my favorite singer in the entire world!!!!) Ryan Adams & the Cardinals live at UCLA’s Royce Hall. While it wasn’t the normal type of wedding present, it was beyond perfect for music lovers like Mr. Espresso and I. We’re the type of people who stalk new bands on iTunes, frequent concerts, and then buy the concert DVDs of the ones we didn’t make it to. We actually just watched the Icelandic concert tour of Sigur Ros last night (shout out to Miss Pom who I know loves them too :) ).

Ok, back to the rockin’ gift. Not only were we ecstatic over the chance to go see Ryan Adams, but we loved how incredibly thoughtful and personal it was-, which in the end, is exactly what a gift should be.

What gifts have you received and/or registered for that are different than the norm?

My bff got us the wedding package dance lessons as a local studio as a wedding/engagement gift. It was something she knew we really wanted to do, but had cut from our budget as one of those little extras we didn’t have to have. So incredibly thoughtful.

Also, my fiance registered for the Star Wars trilogy on DVD at Target. We got all three from our friends at our engagement party. ha.

We’re music freaks too, so we got two three-day tickets to Lollapalooza from one friend and a $200 gift certificate to Ticketmaster from another friend! Heck yeah! Another of our favorite gifts is a bronze statue from Thailand, thoughtfully chosen by a friend who spends half of his time there.

Not music related, but a friend of the family owns an antique store and made a gift of some fabulous costume jewelry pieces to wear in my hair. :)

@ChicagoSarah: So awesome! I think Lollapalooza is like the Coachella we have out here so I can definitely see what an awesome gift that is!! And $200 for Ticketmaster- that gift would have us debating between some pretty awesome concerts to go to
@missm: ooh I love vintage gifts- there’s so much history behind them. And I’m sure they’ll look gorgeous in your hair ;)
@Jenniferb: Such a small word- did you go to the one in LA too?

My grad school roommate bought my husband and I a certificate, good for one year, for Broadway in Chicago tickets. She knew that I loved theater, and she hoped that I could introduce that love to my new hubby. She also alerted us of a fantastic hotel deal in downtown Chicago, so we were able to make it a romantic weekend. We used it this past spring to see “Sweeney Todd,” and best of all, my boy loved it! Now we can be theater dorks together :) It was a perfect gift because it took into consideration our interests and ensured that we would spend time together (having a one-year deadline put some much needed pressure on the deal). It’s one of our favorite gifts received.

I have nothing to add to this except for the fact that a) I HEART RYAN ADAMS and b) I WAS AT BOTH OF THE ROYCE HALL SHOWS.

I hope people buy us lots of ticketmaster gift certificates when we get married. If people know us…they’ll know. LOL.

I love Ryan Adams and the Cardinals too! My fiancé and I saw them twice last year (traveling 7 hours to NYC to see them on Halloween!). We are going to be at the Boston show this fall - it is an extension of our honeymoon! You have great musical tastes and thoughtful friends!
