Another Kind of Top

July 25th, 2008 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Canary

I am a huge fan of birdie cake toppers a la Lauren Alane (my personal fave) and Ann Wood. While checking out Sarah Neuburger of The Small Object and her blog, I noticed the launch of some new wedding cake toppers to add to my list of faves!

Are these adorable or what? Earlier in the month, I had purchased a vanity mirror that included a clothespin girl from The Small Object booth at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, so I can vouch for the quality and workmanship behind Sarah’s pieces. They’re so cute and super well-made.

On her blog, it says that if you’re interested in custom options, (since the one above has already sold) you can just email her. You can even add a flower girl or ring bearer!

On the flip side, I’ve always admired the work of Studio d. Sharp from Portland, Oregon. I had seen these at Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle and really had to resist purchasing one. Here is a beautiful one, perfect for a vintage–style or paper–obsessed bride.

Are you planning on using a cake topper? What does it look like?

I’m getting a personalized topper made by Angelkind. It will look like us in our wedding gear and include our likes and hobbies. I can’t wait to see the finished product!!!

Btw, your topper is adorable! It will look fab on top of your yummy cake!

Laura Alane’s cake toppers are so sweet! Jen Murphy also just opened up an etsy shop where she is selling her adorable cake toppers too. Also, Laurie of lalalaurie just posted an awesome diy project on a lovely birds nest wedding cake topper yesterday:

the clothespin couple are so sweet! we’re going simple and adorning with fresh flowers, which saves us the temptation of all the other fab toppers!

We’re having a sparklers theme, so we’re having ice fountain candles in the top of our cake: http://www.icefountain.co.uk/images.php

I wasn’t planning on getting a cake topper, but last minute decided to use a Mickey & Minnie figurine that we bought from our Disney Cruise adventure. Worked out great!

We’re using the Willow Tree figurines. The cake will have to be strong enough to hold it up, because it’s heavy! FI was in charge of that, and I like his choice.

I LOVED Lauren Alane’s cake toppers but they were out of our budget so I contacted Etsy seller Woolpets about making one. She needle felted two little owls for me (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9147547) which I love so much and I’m glad I can display them after the wedding.
