I Like Free Stuff - Part II

July 25th, 2008 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. Hot Cocoa

Part I

Okay, I know I promised only 2 tools, but I’m going to give a third — because the only thing more awesome than free stuff is bonus free stuff! The Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2008 is now available for download off the Pantone website. For those of you who haven’t perused this fab little brochure before, it features the key shades that top designers are using for their upcoming collections and thus gives you a sense of what the hot color trends will be in the upcoming months. So if you love the look of a Tiffany blue and brown wedding, but worry whether you can make that popular color scheme fresh, you can look to the Pantone guide for an innovative twist on that palette (or for a new set of colors altogether).

Apparently, the sexy new shade for fall is a rich purple. Combine that with taupe or some other neutral, and you’ve got a fierce and exciting new palette that will be oh so very 2008.

Do you already have a surprising or fun color scheme in mind? Did these tools help you create one? Do you want to colorize my wedding? Are you secretly ashamed (or find it hilarious) that a bunch of smart, sassy, worldly women are spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about whether aubergine complements chartreuse? Tell Miss Hot Cocoa. I won’t judge.

Thank you for the link, but for some reason I get an error… but don’t worry I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
I too think it is a little funny how much Brides (myself included) stress over colors. Please I’ve been picking my colors and themes for years… my sister (who doesn’t even have a boyfriend) has already claimed Green and Yellow - You cannot claim colors!

@AliCherri1: The Pantone website appears to be down at the moment!

The color scheme was one of the hardest things to choose in my opinion….and it’s funny because I actually considered aubergine and chartreuse (but felt obligated to pull of a peacock theme w/ those colors) and preceeded to choose about 8 more color schemes after that. But I did look at the Pantone color wheel, and Brides.com has a really good color tool as well.

I’m actually doing a deep aubergine purple for my fall wedding next year! Wow! I wanted colors that “went” with fall but not necessarily “fall colors” (burgandy, orange, yellow, brown, etc.). So I’m going with a lovely deep purple with some small, brighter accents of yellow and pink. Not fallish outright, but when combined with a deep purple gingham check, I think it’ll be cute.

Makes me feel ahead of the curve that I chose aubergine for my fall wedding before it was even a “hip” fall color.

Yep, website is still down. Bummer. On the upside, what a fluke that my favorite color (which just so happens to be my wedding theme color) is the ’sexy new shade for fall’. But of course, I like to think it’s sexy all the time.

That’s so weird! I’m doing a deep purple (royal purple) and burnt orange (my two fab colors) and some gunmetal grey. It’s been a challenge but getting there!! I love deep purple for fall! Even my trench is that color!

Rawr, hot color! (And I think MissEsq is right, it’s been “the new thing” at least a couple of times in the past few years….) Thanks for the adorable post.

Just an FYI, if you follow trends, these are typically released right around NY Fashion week. So if you’re planning for fall ‘09 and don’t know what colors you want, check the Pantone site next April for the upcoming trend colors.

I’ve relied on these pantone charts for years — so can choose the best key *expensive* pieces for each season. I’m thrilled to see brides using them for their colors:)

That’s so fabulous that there are so many fashion forward purple brides! I just might jump on the bandwagon — maybe with a palette of greyish, mauvy purples? And LOL — as MissEsq and Mrs. Tulip point out, I can be oh so very 2008, 2009, and 2010!

BTW, the Pantone website is back up and running!
