Little Ballet Flats

July 26th, 2008 @ 1:05 pm by Mrs. Peacock

Like so many of the elements of our wedding, we wanted to make sure that the flower girl dresses and shoes could easily be worn again. My mom and Mr. Peacock’s mom are making the dresses in a pale pink silk shantung rather than white, so that they might reappear at a birthday party or on class picture day. Trying to find a pattern was much more difficult than expected, but we came up with this Simplicity pattern. A few modifications, and it should be just right.

We are going with version F, the raspberry colored one, without the little flowers. How adorable is that outfit on the model. She looks like a little cupcake! Our flower girls and our junior bridesmaid will not be sporting the detached sleeves and hip wing things.

I wasn’t all that concerned about the shoes until the moms asked for a little direction. I thought these Nine West ballet flats would be perfect. Comfortable, stylish and perfect for school. The bridesmaids and the bride are also wearing gold shoes, so they will fit in with the big girls.
And they come in a cute little bag! After they take their shoes out, they can pack in Barbie clothes and My Little Ponies to their hearts’ content.

Is anyone else making their flower girls’ dresses?

I can not believe it! My daughter wore that exact pattern in my BIL’s wedding. She went with the bottom left dress. It was slightly off white and the sash was a shimmery light blue. No arm thingys or hip poofs for us either.
She look amazing, even if I do say so myself.
My new SIL’s mom made most of the dress, and then my mom did the final fitting. After the wedding I made her another sash in her favorite purple and she wore it to a father/daughter dance and then again for Halloween as a princess. I still have it hanging in her closet even though she out grew it 3 years ago :)
You might want to suggest that the mom get her a full slip to help the dress skirt really fluff out like it is suppose to.

My mom is a wicked seamstress, she’s making our FG dresses from a Vogue patten. It’s very simple as well. I haven’t even thought of shoes just yet.

i’m definitely making the flower girl’s dress…i’m either going to use a pattern very similar to this one, or, on my crazier days, i plan to just make her an enormous tutu out of our wedding colors…but then she might steal the show a little TOO much

The flower girl at my friends wedding wore the dress in the picture, with the arm bands and everything. She was ADORABLE.

This is a great pattern to work with!

My mom also used that same pattern package for my flowergirls. We made the one that is white with a yellow sash (but we made a pink sash). The patterns are AWESOME…those little skirts are SOO nice and full!
and P.S…those ballet slippers are ADORABLE!

@Lynn: Thank you for the suggestion. My FMIL commented that she thought we should add some tulle and a full slip underneath.

I’m glad that this pattern has been tested! I can’t wait to see how they turn out :)

Love it! My FMIL offered to make the FG dress (she’s her granddaughter). I also wanted something in a pale pink shantung - can you share where you got the fabric? I haven’t had much luck walking around the Joanns…. Thanks! I love the pattern you’ve chosen.

@JLS: We actually bought it at Fishman’s fabrics in Chicago. They do have a website, although if you are from a major city you might feel more confident going to a local garment district/fabric mart. I bet if you asked on the local boards you might get some leads!

My mom has volunteered to make the flower girl dresses. I am looking for something similar to what the more simple dreses in the pattern. I think these options are perfect. simple but rewearable in the right fabric.

Hey I used this exact pattern for my flowergirls in my wedding last october. They were chocolate with an ivory sash! They came out ADORABLE!

I believe the pattern that we used was the bottom left one. Good luck with it!
