Mrs. Sea Breeze's Picture
Mrs. Sea Breeze, Vancouver/Dominican Republic Age in 2008 and Occupation: 30, Communications Manager Fiance's Age in 2008 and Occupation: 29, Experiential Marketing Director Engagement Date: October 6, 2007 Wedding Date: November, 2008 Blogging Since: July 17, 2008 Venue: Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana About Me: Planning a destination wedding by the sea should be (oh no she di-in't…) a breeze (…*sigh* yep, she did) but when you've never been to the Caribbean, your powers of imagination are really put to the test. Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.

In My Mind’s Eye

July 28th, 2008 @ 12:40 pm by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Sometimes there are things that just can’t be put into words, even for a long-winded Bee like me.

So without further ado, here is a quickie photo tour of our wedding resort: the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana.

I wish I could share with you my own photos of the resort. But that would be impossible. Because, you see, I’ve never been to this resort… which means I’m planning a wedding at a venue I’ve never seen.

All I’ve had to go on are pictures like these:

And last but not least, where our ceremony will take place:

A picture says a thousand words, but when you’re planning a wedding, a thousand words just doesn’t seem nearly enough.

It would have been amazing to be able to go there and see for ourselves the different options for the ceremony, the reception dinner, the dance and the inevitable after-party. But considering that we are already counting on a lot of extra expenses this year, an extra trip to the Dominican Republic (and another week of vacation days taken at work) was just too tough to pull off.

So instead, I use my imagination. A lot.

Anyone else planning a wedding at a venue they’ve never seen before?

Here are some words for you regarding your wedding venue: beautiful, stunning, macigal, PERFECT!

I love it! Even if you haven’t gotten to see the resort yet, I’m sure you know in your heart that the wedding ceremony and celebration are going to be amazing!

The DR is beautiful, we stayed at Excellence it was wonderful. I have heard good things about your resort as well. It will be beautiful. The amazing thing is the sand, it is so soft. I live in the Florida Panhandle and we have lovely white beaches, but this sand while it wasn’t white (more of a dark tan) it was so soft. We loved it, I wish I could go back tomorrow.

it’s not the same, but I once bought a house I hadn’t seen, and it worked out very well!

It looks beautiful, I’m sure it’ll be great!

We booked our venue sight unseen and didn’t do a site visit either!

Yes! We have never seen our wedding location, city or even country! We are getting marriend in Koblenz, Gemany in September and (like you) we only have pictures to go off of. It’s hard to wrap your head around the beauty. I think it doesn’t seem real, until we see it. I can completely relate and it’s good to see I’m not the only crazy lady going into a wedding blind!

Oh I feel you hon! I definitely had some major venue anxiety before booking my venue, since all of my research was done online as well. Have you spent time on flickr, searching through photos people might have posted from their vacations?

You might even get lucky and find a wedding or two on there!

I’m sure you’ve seen the videos posted on tripadvisor of your resort. (I noticed that one of the videos includes a section on getting married there). Looks like a fabulous place and your guests will loooove staying there. The beach and pool look really spectacular–and I also like that it’s both honeymoon AND kid friendly (how do they manage that!)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, all!

@Miss Avocado: @mrsmek: @Guilty Secret: Yeah, I spent hours and hours on flickr and Tripadvisor too. Lots of pictures of people at the pool bar or kids on the beach, but it does give you a feel for the place. Best advice I can give for anyone doing this is to search on Facebook groups for other people who have gotten married at your venue. Their pro-pics are the best.

I booked my ceremony and reception venue site unseen. We’re doing a DW in Austin, Texas.

FI had been to an event there once 4 years ago, and said it was a very beautiful space. I also looked at pics on-line, and it was also highly recommended on theknot.com local message boards.

And when we finally visited? It completely exceeded my (high) expectations. :)

My fiance and I went on vacation to the Majestic last year, and I can tell you that you will have a GORGEOUS wedding and a fabulous time. We actually were getting jealous watching all the weddings happen while we were there. The resort is great, and they do a really great job with the weddings. We walked by a ton of other resorts where there were weddings going on too, and Majestic definitely did the best job. Enjoy!

I attended a DW wedding at that resort. In fact, the funniest moment of my life happened there. My friends and I did some pretty hilarious things and just plain had a blast. It was that wedding in Punta Cana that helped me decide to have a DW myself. You are going to have a lot of fun!

[...] The resort where we’re going to be married, like most all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, has a salon on-premises. But I don’t know… there’s something about getting my hair done down there that makes me uber-nervous. One time when I was a bridesmaid for a cousin’s wedding, I got my hair done and it was so crunchy-curl-awful that I came home in tears, ripped it all out and started over myself. Oh, and I was $80 poorer. Grr. [...]

You should visit tripadvisor.com. There you can read reviews and view pictures of travelers who have been to that resort. I’m an avid traveler and use the site all the time to scope out new destinations.

I have a coworker who is also getting married at this same resort and have heard it’s AMAZING! Good luck :)
