Las Galletas Vamos a Puerto Vallarta

¡Las galletas vamos a Puerto Vallarta! Translation: The Cookies are going to Puerto Vallarta! After much procrastination and the wedding creeping closer (t-minus 2 months), yesterday we booked our honeymoon south of the border to Mexico.

Mr. Cookie and I knew all we wanted after being surrounded with the love of our friends and family on our wedding, was a honeymoon filled with white sandy beaches, picturesque views and peace and quiet! There was a short list: Fiji, Hawaii, and Mexico. Fiji was too long of a flight for a week’s vacation, Hawaii was too expensive, but Mexico was just right! Mr. Cookie had been to Cancun for spring break, but I’ve never been to Mexico. Again, there was a short list: Los Cabos, Zihuatanejo, and Puerto Vallarta. To decide, we literally put all the names in hat and voilà — Puerto Vallarta it was!

With the American dollar in the proverbial crapper, we found that it is heck of a lot cheaper to book the airline and hotel together. We used an online travel website called Suntrips, which Mr. Cookie had used to book his Cancun vacation. We’ll be staying 3 nights and 4 days at the Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa located in Downtown Puetro Vallarta.

I know Miss Avocado just got back from her vacation to Puerto Vallarta. Have any other bees travel south to Puetro Vallarta? Suggestions about activities and/or must-see attractions?

I was going to do a post about the two resorts I stayed at because I thought it might help you choose, but it sounds like you did pretty good all by yourself, I think I’ll still write my little post anyways. I had friends who swam with dolphins and rode ATV’s and LOVED it, so I’ll talk to them and see if they have any reccomendations!

My fiancee and I went to PV last year for a week and loved it! Our favorite excursion was to Las Caletas, a small island reachable only by boat. There are lots of activities, and a gourmet meal on the beach is included in the cost of the tour. There’s a night tour as well, that includes a fancy dinner and dancing - I heard that was excellent and when we go back we’ll try that out! http://www.vallarta-adventures.com/las-caletas/index.html
Our favorite meal was at Cafe des Artistes. Muy romantico! http://www.cafedesartistes.com/cda/index.htm
Have a great time!

Las Caletas is by far one of the best tours around. The night tour is very romantic, despite there being so many people. Puerto Vallarta is rampid with tour company salesmen though - so be prepared. Some are worth it, others are a complete waste of money. Most island tours are more or less booze cruises; one says it takes you to the only waterfall by horseback. The horses are not in the best condition, so skip it and stay at the beach. There are also 2 canopy tours - one is a manmade zipline in basically a giant sandpit, no “canopies”. I think the good one has something to do with some movie that was shot around there. Otherwise, PV is beautiful! Have fun!

oh - and snorkeling isn’t as fun as the Caribbean side. No pretty colored fish, and way too many people around to see anything. There is one tour that goes the opposite way from Los Arcos but I can’t remember the name - that was good - we saw a ton of giant mantarays!

PV is fun- went there for a DW and (from what i remember, hehe) it was awesome. I went to this great little seafood restaurant for the bachelorette, i’ll have to get the name from the bride. Unfortunately, as Dreambml says, the visibility for snorkeling/scuba wasn’t great, but it’s still fun!

We are staying at that same hotel after our September wedding! Maybe I will see you by the pool. We couldn’t resist the jacuzzi-on-the-balcony-honeymoon-suite.

Actually that says “The Cookies we go to Puerto Vallarta” : ) You want “van” not “vamos.”

Nonetheless, the pictures are gorgeous. I’m jealous.

Two words: ZIP LINING!!!!!!! We had a ton of fun doing this in Puerto Vallarta. There are two main companies that run zip lining tours. I highly recommend Los Veranos. I can’t wait to go back and do it again.

My sister and I stayed the Villa Premiere a few winters ago, and we LOVED it! We didn’t get a chance to stay in the honeymoon suite :), but the staff, food, and experience was fantastic! We can’t wait to go back. Good choice!

I just got married in Las Caletas on Oct. 24th, 2008 and stayed at Dreams hotel too. The wedding was magical. Kelley was my coordinator and she was such a blessing to have for my wedding. We had it at night, so the whole place was lite up by torches and candles. We had a green arch over us for the ceremony which was beautiful. Kelley’s florist was nice enough to give us a few free rose petals for our tables and that made a nice romantic feel during dinner. The bouquets and flowers for my hair were perfect! Everyone raved about our wedding and said it was the best one they had ever gone too. Kelley made it perfect!!!!

Dreams was nice, but it does need to be updated some. Actually they are in the process of doing that right now. I was told that it was the nicest hotel in Mismaloya. The food was good; Oceana restaurant at the resort was the best seafood I had there. It’s a good price, has great views of the ocean, and a huge beach.

The Basics of Picking Great Wedding Champagne and Wine in Puerto Vallarta without breaking your wallet!
Wondering which champagnes and wines to serve at your wedding? You do not know how much of each you will need? Here are the basics that you will need to know to get the perfect mix at your big day.

You may already have a Champagne or wine that you love - something that the two of you drank on a favorite date, or a Champagne that your parents drank at their wedding. If you do not know, there are many helpful sites to Champagne and wine on the net. Your caterer will most likely have recommendations for you and will help you figure out how much wine you will need for the amount of people you are having. At most parties, approximately 30-50% will drink white wine (mostly Chardonnay), 30-50% will drink red wine (mostly cabernet). You will want to consider your crowd: more women usually mean more white wine drinkers, more men mean more red wine.

You will also want to consider what entree you are serving. Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc goes with a wide variety of seafood entrees, as well as poultry and cheeses, and is the best option for pasta with a cream sauce. Chardonnay is a widely popular white that works well with chicken, pork and many seafood dishes.

For red wines, Merlot and Cabernet are the most popular options and both suit a menu that includes beef or pastas with red sauces. Another crowd pleaser is Syrah, a light fruity red. It is great for weddings as it carries a sentiment of new beginnings and celebration.

And of course, you will want to have a Champagne or sparkling wine for toasting! (many of you may not know that sparkling wine is the same thing as champagne, except that its not from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France). This will be the most expensive part of your wine budget, thus only serve it for the toasting. You should plan for 2 glasses of Champagne per guest, unless your wedding will be very long, or you know that there will be many formal toasts. Cheers, F.G

All our fine Wines are only available on the internet and at the best Hotels and Restaurants from Puerto Vallarta to Punta de Mita.
Our Wines are directly imported from Europe.
