Have I introduced you all to our kids yet? I don’t think I have!
Be forewarned - there will be lots of Anthropomorphism in this post.
Sebastian the Teacup Panther (or Black Housecat)
When Mr. Pomegranate and I started dating, I was already a proud single-mommy of a teacup panther called Sebastian (he’s really a standard black house cat). Sebastian was my guard kitty and kept me company during my single years when I lived alone. He is and always will be my baby boy.

Baby Sebastian at about 4 months old lounging and giving me his best “bedroom eyes.” What a stud.
I adopted Sebs when he was only 3 weeks old. While this was much earlier than he should have been away from his biological mommy, his situation was not faring well - so I rescued him. Sebastian was a part of a large group (20 - 25 kittens) that was being raised by a volunteer of the SPCA who also happened to be a friend of mine. This huge group of babies all shared one mommy cat. Obviously, they were not all getting the attention that they needed. My friend told me I would be able to take Sebs home early so long as she could monitor him for the next three weeks to make sure he would be fit for his official adoption at 6 weeks.
Sebastian developed some interesting habits, in lieu of a proper cat mom. I would carry his teeny self on my shoulder, like a parrot, as I completed my daily chores throughout my apartment. He would nuzzle his little head against my neck and nurse as if I was feeding him. It was cute - but only because he weighed about 2 pounds. Now that he’s a full-grown teacup panther, the nursing behavior hasn’t stopped - he likes to nurse on my hand on occasion, but I’ve been trying to ween him of this behavior. It’s kind of weird to have a grown cat who drools and nurses - but I still love him!!
Sterling the Silver Lab
We adopted Sterling, our Silver Labrador Retriever, when we first moved into a proper house. We were co-habitating for the first time and SO excited about it - we’d have a yard and this meant that we could have a dog! Mr. Pom went puppy shopping a few days prior to Valentine’s Day, as he was planning to surprise me with a sweet bundle of fur. After going from shelter to shelter all day long, he came home empty-handed. This was probably for the best as we were still settling into our new home.
We searched for our pup for the next month, but no shelter would allow us to bring any of their dogs home as they didn’t pass the “cat test.” They thought their dogs would most likely eat Sebs. No good! Getting attached and heartbroken too many times, we decided to go to a breeder like the shelters had recommended. As much as we wanted to rescue a dog, we decided that it may be best to adopt a puppy, so that he could be raised with the cat.

Baby Sterling at 6 months old. I miss him being so small - I could carry him around and snuggle him in my lap.
We found Sterling through an ad in our local newspaper. He was the last of a litter, absolutely GORGEOUS and somewhat within our budget. We set up an appointment to meet Sterling and his dad - we immediately fell in love and took him home that day. He is amazingly smart and within 72 hours, he was ringing a bell that we hung from our sliding glass door to go potty outside. The only accidents we had inside from there on out, were there in front of the door - and only because we hadn’t gotten there quickly enough.

Sterling, our 90lb Silver Labrador Retriever (a Dilute Chocolate Lab). He’s the best of both worlds: looks like a Weimeriner, but has the brains and personality of a Lab.
Sterling has been an adventure - this is the first dog either of us have ever owned, so we were unaware as to the amount of work they entail. However, it’s truly a rewarding job to be a dog mom. He is unconditionally loving, incredibly smart and absolutely beautiful. I love my puppers.
As you can see, both the kids get along rather well. Sterling likes to bathe Sebastian - and Sebs tolerates it, though it’s usually not so inappropriate. But it’s the fact that he tolerates it that makes it obvious that he enjoys his brother’s company. Most cats would swipe the dog away or hiss. They do occasionally chase each other throughout the house - but it’s all in good fun! They provoke each other like a modern-day Tom & Jerry, but we all know it’s just brotherly love.
I’m now searching for ways to include the kids into the wedding. They will not be joining us at R.H. Phillips, as it would prove to be way too chaotic. However, I’d like to include them in some of the details - but I’m lacking in ideas.
