Must Love Shoes

July 30th, 2008 @ 11:28 am by Mrs. Margarita

I love shoes. Maybe a little too much. So when it came to my wedding shoes, I was in all out shoe mania mode. Especially since photographers take some fabulous pictures of your wedding shoes as seen in the shoe style posts regularly featured on The Bride’s Cafe.

I had dreams of Louboutins, Giuseppe Zanottis and Manolos. Then I found her. Prada Silk Cristal Pumps! Gold and silver! Crystal Encrusted Heel! Swoon.

Except for the price tag. Sigh. Although I love shopping, I’d honestly never spent that much on one item that wasn’t my rent money. Then my girlfriends did something amazing (as usual). They gave me a gift card as my bridal shower gift to buy my dream shoes! They even gave me all these little cute foot accessories (foot creams, scrubs, bunion pads, you name it). I was ecstatic and quickly picked up those Pradas without a hesitation in the world.

With the shoes bought, all was sweet in Margaritaville until this weekend. I wore those 4″ puppies to our dance lessons for our first dance number. 2 hours later my feet were killing me. I regularly wear heels that are between 3-4 inches so I didn’t think it would be a problem. Yes my feet kill at the end of the day but I love the height and the way heels make you feel sexy and cute. For some reason these shoes hurt more than the rest. I tried them on when I first wore them but obviously it’s much different dancing around on them for 2 hours. Now, I’m worried about making it through the day/night without falling over.

I need some advice about what to do. Should I suck it up and break them in? Should I get them stretched out? Should I look for alternative shoes? Should I buy shoes to change into later? Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

I would definitely wear them a few more times and see how you feel. Sometimes shoes do stretch and feel more comfortable the more you wear them.

But definitely have another more comfier pair ready as well. I know when I took pictures before the ceremony at the gardens, I wore a comfy old pair because the grass was muddy…and glad I did because we walked a LOT!

Unhappy feet = unhappy bride…

Those shoes are INCREDIBLE!!!! I saw them in person a few weeks before my wedding and it took all the willpower in the world not to buy them. I would just wear them as much as you can around the house to break them in. They’re too beautiful not to wear on your wedding day!!!

which parts of your feet hurt?

Lol, well, I’m the girl who ditches her heels at every reception, so that’s my suggestion. If you absolutely love these shoes, which you certainly seem to, wear them when they’re most likely to be noticed - during the ceremony through your first dance. Once the heavy dancing starts and everyone’s having fun, take the moment to slip into something more comfortable. I’d suggest some luxurious ballet flats, but the height difference in shoes might make your dress drag too much. So, perhaps just some more comfortable, 3-inch heels that don’t cost a lot? No one will notice at this point, so you can have it both ways - beauty and comfort!

Hellooo lover, those shoes are HOT, and definitely should make an appearance on your wedding day!!

Ahhh, the price of beauty, eh? I would wear them for pictures, and for as long as you can bear. I would have comfy back-up shoes as well.

O.M.G. Those shoes are GORGEOUS! I’d try to suck it up but if they are just unbearable I’d look for a backup pair that you can switch into when no one is looking =)

Would any pads help?

Yes, I agree with yiyi, the advice given will be dependent on where the pain is coming from! Hopefully, I’ll have lots of suggestions. LOVE the shoes BTW! They’re gorgeous. :)

oh right… the question. Keep the shoes, and change to comfy shoes at night! Those shoes are too pretty not to wear for at least a little bit… :)

Those shoes are amazing, but I can totally understand worrying about the pain! I bought some shoes to change into at the reception because I’m worried the same thing will happen to me!

Why don’t you try some gel inserts in the ball-of-your-foot area? Those save my feet whenever I wear anything above 2″. Foot petals makes some that are cute and functional: http://www.footpetals.com/cgi-bin/footpetals/Tip%20Toes.html.
They’re also available at Nordstroms, Macy’s, DSW, etc. I used them all the time when I was dancing on pointe and my feet killed me–you can even use one on top of another for extra cushioning!

Buy another pair of comfortable shoes to chang into for when the dancing gets going! You obviously love these shoes and they shouldn’t hurt too bad during the ceremony and cocktail hour.

sassygirl says:

Hmmmm honestly you need a thicker heel and straps for dancing. After taking dancing lessons for a couple of months, I realized just how unstead you get when you’re trying to spin on a skinny heel.

tanya2s says:

Insolias are great for making heels feel lower. Also, try wearing them with socks on to stretch them out gently, maybe making room for a gel insert on the ball of the foot. And get some more comfortable shoes for dancing, trust me, even shoes that feel comfy on a regular daily basis will hurt by the end of your wedding day!

I would wear them for pics! then change into dancing shoes for the reception!

Wowww those shoes are HOTT! I agree with the suggestion of Foot Petals - the full insoles are really helpful, and so are the heel pads.

Linzerella says:

I have these shoes on my computer background … sigh. Love.

MissCricket says:

Put some gel pads in the bottom and suck it up– those babies are too gorgeous to sit in your closet on your wedding day!!! Bring a pair of cute flats for dancing if it gets to be way too painful– nobody will be noticing your shoes anyway by that point in the evening…

kayteebug says:

If I had those shoes, I would most definitely not change shoes later in the night. Nothing will compare. Just break ‘em in. I broke in a few pairs of shoes by wearing them while I did dishes or laundry when I knew I’d have to stand still in them for extended periods of time.

Tea says:

i think this is about the fourth time i’ve seen this shoe on the bee but you’re the first [and lucky] one to buy them!

that being said, they’re too fabulous to not be worn. i agree with the others, wear them until the heavy partying starts and make the switcheroo.

Gasp! Those shoes are STUNNING. You MUST wear them and yes, take many many photos.

That said, I agree with everyone on the gel inserts for the ball of the foot. Here’s a trick–have a second set of gel inserts on ice somewhere (in a cooler in your limo? in the fridge at the reception area? somewhere!) and switch them when your feet get tired. Ahhhhhhh…. Does wonders.

I say…the day is going to fly by…have Dr. Miss Pom make her diagnosis…have an extra glass of whatever and an ibrupofen and repeat…I will wear flip flops tomorrow, today I suck it up and look fabulous!

That is so sweet of your friends. What a great idea. I would fall over the minute I put them on, but you go and rock those babies!

Miss Margarita says:

@yiyi and @Miss Pomegranate: The balls of my feet hurt the most. Pom, what’s your diagnosis?

@sassygirl: Its true a thicker heel and strap would definitely help with dancing. Mr. Margs and I are very novice dancers so there won’t really be any fancy moves - I think we’ll be lucky if we can dance around the floor without falling over haha.

@bekawallrus: I’ll definitely have to pick up some of those!

@tanya2s: I’ll def. look into insolias - thanks!

@Miss Sea Breeze: Ohh thats a great idea!

I think I’m gonna use all your ideas! It seems like I should break them in, suck it up for as long as I can, grab some petals/insolias/gel inserts and definitely buy a change of shoes. You guys rock! :)

missm says:

definitely try insolia plus cushions for the balls of the feet (like foot petals). if there is still discomfort, try stretching if they feel too tight. other than that, break them in a bit and then save them away for the big day, but have backup dancing shoes, as others have mentioned. :)

Gretta Golightly says:

GIRL - I have the perfect thing. These are better than normal foot pads. I have a mad shoe fetish and I’ve tried insolias, gel inserts, foot petals, blah blah. For shoes that have a closed back heel, like your pretty Prada’s, you should try Superfeet premium insoles (www.superfeet.com). The website makes it look like a sports-thing, but if you go to the shoe department at Nordstrom and ask for Superfeet for high heels, you’ll get the black ones that just slip into the heel of the shoe. They will make a 4″ seem more like a 2.5″.

Pita says:

I LOVE those shoes! They are AMAZING. I think you shold def. buy a pair of comfy shoes to have in case you want to change into something different during the reception. On the day of your wedding you may be in the wedding bliss daze and not notice the pain in your feet and keep the shoes on all night, but in case you are suffering, have a back up pair ready! :)

30.
Cole says:

I actually gasped out loud when I saw that picture…those shoes are beyond GORGEOUS!!!!
Maybe have a backup pair tucked away for when the pain gets too unbearable.

31.
tahoebound says:

Those are amazing and how cool are your friends for doing that!
You definitely have to wear them for atleast the ceremony and pictures.

Corey says:

I have those YUMMY Prada’s in black! I just got them from Nordstrom’s for $325… I have been LUSTING after these since March!!

I had the same problem when I got these lovlies and discovered that they run a smidge smaller and narrow than what I’m used to. I’m going to get mine stretched a bit and hope to god it works wonders!!!

Ah the trials and tribulations of the bride. Does your lengha cover your shoes up? If so wear comfy shoes when you need to dance the night away, and rock the pradas for the photo ops.

Yup foot petals - sorry folks for my lag in diagnosis - I need to remember to to check that Follow Up box… Oopsie! Sorry Margie!

Foot petals are my best suggestion for the ball of foot prob. Anything with gel with help even more - but perhaps just the foot petals for the ball of your foot to help lift the front of your foot and share the weight with your heel.
