Our Photo Reminder Card!

July 30th, 2008 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Candy Corn

Thanks to Miss Creampuff’s recent post, I discovered her older entry about photo reminder cards, a concept that made me audibly squeal in my chair. I absolutely love photos and probably have over 1,000 photos of Mr. Candy Corn and I saved on my computer. It’s sad, but true. That’s right, I’ll admit it, I’m a photoholic. After seeing Miss Creampuff’s awesome diy project, I immediately decided to design my own double-sided postcard that our guests can tuck into an envelope (not yet designed, bear with me!) with copies of their photobooth photos. Thanks to Miss Creampuff’s super informative post, I was able to “borrow” (or blatantly steal) her text for the back of the postcard with the upload instructions. I totally owe Miss Creampuff my first born and I hope she doesn’t hate me for being super inspired by her craftiness!

The front of our card with an illustration I did of Mr. Candy Corn & I. I threw a little damask in there to represent for the damask-loving bees!

The back of our postcard, which ties into our blue & brown bird theme.

cc1.jpg

Here’s a larger shot of the illustration I did of Mr. CC and I, since it’s fairly teensy in the image of the postcard.

I set up a new pro flickr account (since I didn’t want our guests accessing my personal account) with a cute “www.flickr.com/photos/mrandmrscandycorn” web address. Our photo reminder cards will be displayed at the reception tables on the guests’ plates, with extras set out on a table near the doors for guests to pick up when they leave (if they managed to lose theirs at some point).

How are you asking your guests to share their snapshots with you?

that is possibly the greatest thing I’ve seen on WeddingBee….and I’ve seen a lot of great things. :)

As a guest, I would be a little put off by the price list on the front. Perhaps you should reconsider this portion. I do think it is cute, otherwise!

I agree with Kim - super cute idea, but it sort of implies you’re expecting your guests to spend $100 on your gift…

I did a test run and my cousins (all in their 20’s/30’s) could not figure out flickr. so…we’re having everyone email the pictures to an email account we set up for this occasion. Our photo cards give them our email address and the websites the pictures will be posted on. I’d rather have 300 emails after the wedding than 0 pics on flickr.

I think these are adorable! First off, the illustration is fantastic…seriously, so cute! Second, I think setting up the Flickr account is a great idea….we did the same thing for a family wedding this spring and ended up with some great shots….so fun to see some of the things that we missed out on the day of. Third, I don’t think the prices on the front imply anything at all….just a cute take on the popular Master Card commercials. I *can* see why someone might read further into it, but it’s not something I think you should be very worried about. I think I’ve said the word “cute” about 200 times in this comment, but seriously…these are so cute!

I was married on Saturday, and my only regret is not having set up one of these accounts! Good work!

I will be doing the exact same thing, minus the adorable illustration because I have no artistic ability whatsoever. Also. I don’t think you are implying that guests should spend $100 on the gift, I think that the commercials are known by everyone now, and guests can probably figure out that you are just playing off of that. Some of them probably won’t spend $70 on a babysitter either.

Some recent commercials have put “priceless” in all of the categories. That might take care of any lingering thoughts of expectation of cost.

Amazing card, that illustration of you two kicks butt.

I love this idea but can’t help thinking about the people who I wouldn’t want finding ALL the pictures. (Like… ex-boyfriends…) Maybe I just need to work on taming my paranoia?

You and Mr. CC are so fly in that pic! I love it :)

I agree with no prices. Maybe you could do something like:

New outfit for the wedding: Fabulous
A Babysitter for the evening: Freedom
Wedding gift for the couple: Appreciated (brain dead and i can’t think of another word)
Candids of the couple and festivities: Priceless.

I also think you could just to priceless for them all? Either way, this is awesome! :)

@Kim:
I was considering lowing the prices for the items. I don’t want to seem like I’m insinuating that people should spend $100 on a gift for us or that they should splurge that much on a babysitter, but I also wanted to put prices to model it after the Mastercard commercials, because I don’t really think it’s as funny to put priceless after every sentence…but that’s just me.

@Lynie:
Thanks so much, that’s the sweetest comment ever!

@Robster:
Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you liked it so much!!

@monk:
I was looking for an example of an ad that has priceless in each category to see how they do it in a funny manner…I guess I’ll try to search Google for an example later :) Thanks for the suggestion!!

@Miss Avocado:
Yeah, I wasn’t sure if I should leave the babysitter thing completely off for those who don’t have kids and replace it with something else, but I was drawing a blank for ideas on what guests spend money on for weddings. Thanks for the feedback :)

@KateMW:
Sure thing, I’d be honored! :)

@Miss Sea Breeze:
Hahah lucky for me I don’t have any ex-boyfriends, so the paranoia is lacking :) Thanks for the kind words!

@Mrs. Bee:
They always make me giggle too hehe

@Miss Margarita:
Thanks Miss Margarita!! I like your idea of not including the prices in a creative way…I’m going to go put my thinking cap on now to come up with stuff heehe :)

Thanks for your ideas, you rock!

@AliCherri1:
Thanks AliCherri!

I love those! Super cute :) We’re putting our information into the programs. One less total paper product, and I hope it gets people thinking, “ooh, take lots of pictures” early on (like before the ceremony, preferably). I totally did a WB search two weeks ago for the perfect wording, and now it’s here, there, everywhere :)

Also, being huge mac users, FI and I were able to set up an online/iphoto “gallery”…people can actually email the photos to an email address and they directly post to the gallery. Or, they can click on a link on our wedding webpage and it takes them straight to the “upload photo” link. I love it b/c there is no signing on or username or password. Just visit our website, click on the “photo album” link, and you’re there. Maybe not as private, but only our guests really have our website info, so not all that different than a flickr account where you’ve given all the guests the info, right?

The whole sharing photos idea is genius!

It’s super cute lady! I think the prices are fine, and to replace them would make the result less cute.
In the grand scheme of your whole wedding I highly doubt anyone will read into this enough to be offended.
PS- I like how you drew the hair in your illustration :)

I second Miss Margarita’s idea. I think the card is cute but was really put off by the prices….

I think the problem is that (along with making people think they should spend $100) it downplays the gift as not being “priceless”. I like the idea of putting “appreciated” instead. It gives a MUCH better vibe.

Thanks for the help guys!

Ok, so I can either do something like this:

new outfit for the wedding: fabulous
a babysitter for the evening: freedom
wedding gift for the happy couple: fully-appreciated
a candid shot of the newlyweds kissing: priceless.

Or something like what I had done, but with less expensive prices

What do you guys vote? I think I’m leaning toward Miss Margarita’s idea because I want to stay away from offending people as much as possible :)

I like the 2nd draft better, Miss Candy Corn, but I think it’s best to leave the gift line out altogether. You just shouldn’t mention it at all. I think it will totally work with a substitution. Of course I have no ideas :)

You could use “hotel room” … “plane tickets” … “gas for the car” … “tip for valet” … “extra pair of shoes” for anther cost center for your list. I agree with leaving the gift off. Otherwise, super cute and very timely, since I’m planning on making mine tonight!

Doing the “fabulous… freedom… fully appreciated” doesn’t have the recognizable zing of the MC commercial. Putting $100 for the gift is definitely offputting. Totally agree with Loves-a-Limey’s suggestion … Maybe something like this:

Wedding card : $5.
Dry cleaning bill for tux with cake stain: $25.
Gas to drive to ceremony and reception: $40.
Photos of the newlyweds making fools of themselves: Priceless

My husband of 4 days and I made mini moo cards ( http://www.moo.com/ ) for our reception. On the front we had an assortment of awesome baby photos supplied by our parents, and the back read: “Share your photos with us! gallery.me.com…..” then our names and wedding date. If you have a mac/me account, their new galleries are a great way to share as your guests don’t have to sign up with flickr or yahoo to upload. So far we have just over 200 photos in the gallery, and everybody has a tiny baby photo memento from our wedding. The cost of 100 mini moo cards was $27 with shipping for me.

You should totally omit the wedding gift reference. I really like Christine’s suggestions. The gas for the car is just perfect. Great illustration of you and Mr CC.

you know your guests best, but I caution you to not spend too much $$ producing these. We set up an account on kodak for these purposes and NO ONE — not even our 20/30-something friends — posted their photos there. Instead, they sent me photos from whatever account they normally use. Frustratingly, that was usually kodak! So I’m not sure why they didn’t use our account, other than they like to keep their photos all together in their own account. In the end, I’m glad we didn’t spend a ton of time or money on this.

That is absolutely perfect, thank you so much. You’re a genius!! I’m going to make the changes tonight.

@Momma Candy Corn:
Thanks mom :) You’re totally biased though.

@groomzillaisme:

@endb:
A lot of our guests are younger, digital camera-toting people so I think we’ll get our $25 worth out of it. I’m going to be ordering postcards for a very affordable price on Vistaprint, and to me it’s worth taking the chance to get some more snapshots of the day :)
