Some Flower Girl Fun

July 30th, 2008 @ 4:09 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

My lovely Niece-in-Law Pom will be the Flower Girl in our wedding. Not only do I love this girl to pieces, but she is gorgeous and smart to boot! How lucky of a future Aunt am I? I knew that I needed to find an amazing dress for little NIL Pom to wear while she’s walking down the aisle.

After many, many online searches, I stumbled upon a few black and white polka dot dresses that I fell in love with. Namely, one dress by Rare Editions and another one by Bonnie Jean. Both were affordable, adorable and comfy looking. I wanted to go with a sundress sort of look - while October is technically a Fall month, in California, early October is pretty much always an Indian Summer.

You may have noticed that the Gradient Dot Dress was only offered up to a size 4T - and dear NIL Pom is much older now and wearing a size 6. So I continued searching and stumbled upon my favored dress on eBay for a mere $8.50! They cited the dress as being MSRP $56 for the “older version” so I snapped up the dress immediately - if I decided on another dress later on, $8.50 was worth losing. However, upon receiving the dress, I knew I would be sticking with my cheap chic version - it was adorable! It has a nice soft cotton finish, a built-in crinoline for volume, and a nice cotton lining to prevent irritation from the scratchy crinoline. I’ve shipped it to SIL Pom for fitting and she sent me some sneak peek pictures!

NIL Pom works that dress! Her mommy is a photographer, so she was raised to pose in front of the lense!

I ordered a size 6X just in case she grew a little, so it’s a tad baggy in the arms - nothing a little bit of tailoring can’t fix! Check out that cute bow in back - I love it.

Now I’ve begun to start looking at accessories to go with NIL Pom’s newly acquired dress. I’ve stumbled upon these cute little polka dot encrusted Chuck Taylors. LOVE these! They’d be way too much with the polka dot dress, so I didn’t purchase them, but I had to share them anyway.

She’ll definitely be carrying a galvanized bucket of flower petals or white carnation heads and accented with a nice black and white striped or green bow as shown in the picture below. I think it’s adorable an idea and it should tie in the galvanized metal used throughout the flower arrangements in the reception.

Great post and an adorable dress! I second the non-traditional look, especially for a 7-year-old! And who wants to pay more than a hundred bucks for a dress that will fit for 3 months? My flower girl (also my future niece!) is 7 as well, and we wound up getting her a cute dress at Target for super cheap… anyone looking for a girl this age right now should check out Target - they have some great deals online in girl’s dresses!

Aw. Thanks all! My FNIL is full of sass. Love it!

@Jenny Louwheeze: You’re spot on there!! Target has fabulous little girl’s dresses! Great suggestion!

@Nstar: I couldn’t believe it either - I thought it would be a crappy quality, but it wasn’t!

Great dress (and price). We went with dressed from babyGap’s Easter line, and are adding sashes made from the bridesmaid dress fabric. Also, our FGs will be carrying baskets made by my mom.
