The Purple Shoe Drama - Part One : wedding punta cana shoes Capricorn2.jpg

Until now, my postings have exhibited the true-to-Capricorn-ish nature under which I normally operate. So far, I’ve tried to tell you about things in a fairly logical order–how we chose to do a DW, how we picked our resort, blahblahBLAH–but stop the presses! Because there’s a SHOE DRAMA to report!!

For those non-Caps out there, let’s here’s a crash course in our astrological attributes: Practical. (check) Disciplined. (check) Methodical. (check)

But oh, there are so many other traits that I’m supposed to exhibit which, for me, are promptly thrown out the window when SHOES are involved: Prudent. (um…)- Cautious. (er…) Responsible. (ahem…) Traditional. (d’oh!!!)

Normally this compulsion is manageable. However, just like with so many other things, the situation has escalated to epic proportions because it’s wedding-related. I hope there are a lot of shoe experts out there ’cause this Bee needs some advice.

—–

I’ll try to keep the background story quick and snappy so we can cut to the chase (oh, fine. Who are we kidding? This will be a story told in several parts).

Would you believe, I didn’t even start thinking about what shoes to wear on our wedding day until the day the store where I bought my dress called me to tell me it finally came in.

My first reaction was: EEEK! YAY!! MY DRESS IS IN, CAN’T WAIT TO GO PUT IT ON!!!

My second reaction was: Hmmm, now I have to get it altered but I’ll put that off for a bit so I won’t accidentally dump a big steaming mug of coffee on it one day when Mr SB is out of town and I take the opportunity to put on the dress and prance around for a few hours.

And my third reaction was: Wait a second, I can’t even think about alterations until I get the proper things that I’ll be wearing with the dress, that is, the right bra… AND THE PERFECT SHOES!

So that was FOUR months ago. And I’m still looking for shoes. Kind of.

So what kind of shoes does a girl having a destination wedding look for?

Well, the first thing you need to know is: I love purple.

No wait, I don’t just love purple. I looooooove purple. Luuurv purple. Lust over it. Everyone that knows me, knows this. To the point where if my wedding were a Jeopardy game (gawd I love that show) and Alex Trebek said to the contestants, “This is Miss SB’s trademark, her wedding color, and the thing that makes her happy like only Mr SB can,” (uh… What? Did I just say that?), they would not even skip a beat: “What is purple?”

Other BBMs (Bees Before Me) have done an amazing job telling you all about the latest wedding shoe trends so it will probably not come as any news to you that a considerable number of brides these days are throwing tradition to the wind and going with a colored wedding shoe. (For examples, see Miss Pomegranate, Miss Hydrangea, Mrs. Toucan and Mrs. Raspberry, to name a few.)

So I think you see where I am going with this… put two and two together, and you have my wedding shoes.

Or rather, you have my wedding shoe conundrum.

Because did you know? Beautiful wedding shoes that are purple are terribly, terribly hard to find…

You could dye a pair of shoes purple. The dyeable brand has come out with some new styles that aren’t terrible… actually they’ve gotten a little more classic. I especially like their peep toes.

I am the same way with green! My wedding shoes are green satin peep-toes with a bow over the toe. Endless.com is where I got mine, they have a search feature where you can search for certain colors. My favorite of the purples were the Nine West Jojus2 in dark purple satin.

I had this same problem! I LOOOOOVE purple too (I have a whole category for it on my blog), and I had tons of constraints for my shoes (the biggest one being that I wear a size 11), and it took me forever to find the perfect purple wedding shoe! But I found it eventually!

You post reminded me of an episode of “Whose wedding is it anyway?” where the girl wanted ALL purple, it was really a funny episode - have you seen it?

I can’t wait to read the rest of your posts!

I’m having the same problem - I want pale blue satin peep toe pumps… but I can’t find them anywhere. I think I’m going to have to have them dyed but I’ve heard so many horror stories.

I’m doing purple shoes as well! I bought mine off of eBay - they’re brand new and gorgeous and I love, love, LOVE them. They are currently being stored at my mom’s house so I don’t wear them every day, lol.

I just received my first foray into the great wedding shoe search:

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/shoes/heels/PRDOVR~90737/90737.jsp

The Martine (shoe cousin to the fabu clutch that the Bees are all abuzz about) in Royal Purple - conveniently on sale….!

I’m undecided. It may be too purple for me, I’m more of a blue girl. But you should check it out!

I ALSO love purple!!!! We’re using a deep eggplant color. I was initially on a quest for purple shoes (and I still might be), but I’ve got silver strappy heels that I also love. Here is what I found in my purple shoe search: http://www.famousfootwear.com/product.asp?product_id=1012961&variant_id=58907 (i saw them in purple at an off-broadway store). Also at Off Broadway, they carry a brand called “Michael Shannon” and there’s a purple peep toe, style name “Anna.”

@Miss Margarita: And wedding color too! Hooray!

@Becky: No! I haven’t seen it?! Going to check Youtube the MOMENT I finish this.

@distractedbyshinyobjects: Love those. Sadly, 3.5″ heel is too much for me… not to mention it would be a Tom-Katie situation.

My shoes were purple too! People loved the little surprise peeking out of the bottom of my dress. These are them:

I got them on Ebay for pretty cheap. They were actually pretty comfortable. I wore them the whole entire day and was fine.

Hi Miss SB,

My shoes are purple ( I have 1 week and 3 days to go till the big day). Here is what I’m wearing to the wedding. I fell in love with love with the color and sole.

I want purple wedding shoes too. And I fell in love with a pair that are about 1000% out of my budget. Maybe as purple continues to get more trendy, purple shoes won’t be so hard to find. : ) GL!!

I also had a hard time finding purple shoes, as eggplant is my main wedding color, but I found some great ones on piperlime, but they’re sold out now :( But another place besides zappos that I searched thru was endless, http://www.endless.com, they have lots of purple options right now!

SB,

My BMs have dark purple dresses and are all getting dark purple shoes dyed to match, so naturally (since it’s my fave color as well) I am getting myself a pair to wear at the wedding. Most that I found online were not so pretty so I went with the dyeables. Hope that helps.
