Our Fabulous Front Doors

July 31st, 2008 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

Our venue has THE most gorgeous doors. They are gigantic, modern and covered in steel squares. They open up on an asymmetrical hinge and create a fabulous entrance to our event. In fact, they will set the stage for many memorable moments, such as the bouquet toss and the garter throw. My mom had the fabulous idea to have these two events take place outside the doors of our venue - and down the steps.

Watch out for skinned knees ladies - if you scramble for the bouquet, it’ll be up these steps!

These steps and doors will the be backdrop for some momentous photos and we will need to bring some of the decor from the inside, outside. Therefore, I will be adding a new DIY project to the list: a personalized door monogram.

I love the look of these and have found several different options for my DIY project, including the ones shown below.

Floral Monogram Wreath
I would create ours with green and white flowers and hang it with a black & white ribbon.

Painted Wooden Monogram
These wooden letters are adorable and would be super easy to make - I’d paint ours green and hang them from a black and white ribbon.

Floral Monogram
These seem to have become a classic! I could do this with white or green flowers and add a contrasting ribbon.

Greenery Monogram
I’d do ours with moss and hang it from a black and white ribbon.

I think that the wooden monogram fits more with the modern style of the doors that you have…

I went wood. They look so clean and modern which seems to fit your theme and they are easy!

agreed with the previous two posters.

I think the Greenery Monogram would look the best against those dark wood doors and fit w/ the greenery sounding the vinery.
The wooden monogram looks a little to country in my mind, but I think they would look great if you could mind more modern letters.

i say wood too, but with the black glitter like your table numbers, hung with wide satin white ribbons.

I’m all for a slightly more modern wooden monogram!

I’ve grown up with the initials JK which has always made me think Junior Kindergarten, and then I got engaged to a man whose name began with K, and I’m not taking his surname either, so although there are so many pretty monogram ideas, I didn’t do them.

The doors of your venue are very modern and angular. I’m not sure which one would go best! they’re all lovely.

I agree with the above comments about the wooden ones. It fits the more modern look better with clean lines. The others might look out of place.

I chose the greenery one just because I like the idea with the moss and black & white ribbon.

We create moss covered ones for our doors. They aren’t as streamline as the wood but much more structured than the floral options. I learned a lot making them and would be happy to pass my tips along to anyone who is thinking about this option.

I voted for greenery, but I can see wooden ones working well too. It just seems like the wooden letters would have to compete with the doors more while the moss would stand out a bit better. It would also tie the landscaping on the sides together.

I vote greenery. It’s gorgeous and will stand out against the doors.

Can you do a metal? If someone you know works with metal, it would be amazing to get them to cut the monogram and then hang it with ribbon… and you could make them modern/retro gorgeous.

Just a thought (I haven’t read the other comments - my apologies if I’m redundant)… my florist REFUSES to do wreathes and letters because they are SO bad for the environment with all the Styrofoam. I’d suggest something with wood so that you can keep it forever instead of a Styrofoam P (for Pome..) that will sit in a landfill for eternity.

The doors are fantastic.

I love the suggestion of metal letters - alternatively, acrylic ones could also be wicked; or maybe get some wood letters and hit them with silver or mirror spray paint?

@Miss Green Tea: Uhm, HELLO GENIUS! That is a FABULOUS idea!! You just took everyone’s fabulous suggestions (thanks guys!) and took it up a notch!

@doctorgirl: I’m just afraid the metal won’t “pop” against the metal doors.

@enmoore66: VERY good point!
@Trish: Ooh…that might be nice too!
