The Purple Shoe Drama - Part 2

July 31st, 2008 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Once I had decided on a purple shoe, the search started in earnest.

I searched high and low. I trudged from store to store, all over Vancouver, Montreal and Seattle. Nada. Well, that’s not entirely true. I did find one pair. ONE PAIR of pretty purple peep-toe pumps–the appropriateness of which was directly in proportion to how desperate I was starting to feel (i.e. not so much, but starting to get VERY):

(Pardon the picture, it happened to be a fishnet sort of day. Shoes by Ferragamo; closest I’ve found online are these.)

They felt like buttah. But something wasn’t right. They seemed too… winter-ish.

Since there was nothing to be had in any of the nearby stores, I entered the biggest shopping mall of all: The Internet. And oh, you’d think a cornucopia of wondrous delights was spilled before my drooling self, wouldn’t you?

But as I looked at all these lovelies, none of them pulled at my heart strings.

I love pumps and peep-toes and suede, but I can’t shake the feeling these would look out-of-place on a steamy hot day in the Caribbean.

Three-and-a-half (or more!?) inch heels are dang sexy, I know I wouldn’t survive even one round of polkas tottering on these (oh yes, you better believe there will be polkas at this Polish gal’s wedding, even if they have to be played by a steel drum band). Not to mention the fact that it would be a Tom-Katie situation. Too bad, because there were a LOT of beauties:

Others were the wrong shade of purple, the wrong style or just plain… wrong (but might be perfect for you, so here they are).

I only came remotely close to buying one pair… good color, good height, looked comfy… but I didn’t:

Only a low, strappy, richly violet shoe would do—but only one will be worthy of spending the most important and magical day of my life with me.

And then I found them…

I can’t wait to see the conclusion. :)

Oh, and that wedding I commented about yesterday from “whose wedding is it anyway” with the girl who LOVED purple is called “purple paradise,” but I didn’t see it on you tube! Maybe they’ll re-run it. (It’s from May 2007, season six episode five, according to imdb).

Miss Sea Breeze, I applaud your efforts to find the right purple shoe. When I got married I had my heart set on a purple shoe or a blue shoe… I had many of the same problems you have encountered (lots of purple suede, too-high heels, etc)… a reader on weddingbee actually ended up finding my blue shoes for me through the power of the internet. I’m looking forward to seeing what you ended up with!

perhaps you would consider getting a pair of dyeable shoes (make sure they say dyeable on the box) and having them dyed the right shade? I work in a bridal shop that does custom dyeing and it costs less than $10. Any bridal shop should be able to give you a name…

ooh! I really like that Kate Spade spectator pump and the Mary Jane in the grouping that had something wrong for you. many of the sandals are great, too.

I thought 3″ was too high and set my max at 2.5″, but the shoes I ended up wearing were 3″. I didn’t even realize until I held up a ruler to them after buying them because they didn’t feel too high, and I had no problem wearing them all day the wedding day.

@Becky: Aw, thanks for following up, you’re too sweet. I couldn’t find it on Youtube either. Hopefully they’ll rerun it… maybe now I can convince Mr SB to get a Tivo?

@Alison: Numbers 3 & 20 are from there. I’ve never bought anything from there though. You?

@NatalieL: Yay for group efforts!

@purplegoddess: The link didn’t work for me. Do you mean this shoe? http://coolspotters.com/shoes/marciano-iris-pump
Hot but yowsers, what a heel!

@proudfarmwife: Definitely an option I looked into. The styles of dyables are indeed getting better and better. But, *sigh*, I didn’t fall in love with any I found.

May I make a suggestion? I just don’t think leather shoes look right with formal dresses. Too casual or business-like. Go for a fabric style - satin or silk.

OMG someone else is dealing with my same issues. I found my shoes but finding a low strappy shoe for the bm and moh has been a long search. Can’t wait to see what you found.

Mr. Av is convinced that Poles don’t do the Polka. It’s my favorite ballroom dance, and I totally would have done it for our first dance at the wedding if he was into the idea. Thanks for proving him wrong :)
