The Toucan Always Forgets!

July 31st, 2008 @ 12:15 pm by Mrs. Toucan

After almost 2 months of married bliss, Mr. Toucan is still not used to wearing his wedding ring! I pretend to get mad, and jokingly say he’s “trying to look like a single guy” again! His reaction is so cute, though. He gets pretty upset with himself for forgetting! So, the past week, after he forgot to wear his ring 3 of the 4 days, I made him a sign and hung it up at the door.So far, he hasn’t forgotten to wear it since!

How good is your spouse (or you!) at remembering to wear the wedding ring?

Why does he take it off in the first place? It’s not like he can’t wear it in the shower. Does he do a lot of woodworking as a hobby? : )

That is hilarious!

Mr. Jasmine is surprisingly good at wearing his wedding ring. I expected him not to be because he is definitely not the jewelry type, but he hasn’t forgotten to wear it once since we’ve gotten married. He even has to remind me to put mine on sometimes!

I’m still trying to get the hang of wearing my e-ring.

Though we’re not married yet, the boy and I both have the tendency to put any jewelry we wear on a daily basis on our desk right next to our phones and wallets. It’s habitual to just pick it up when we pick up our necessities. I’m considering getting a ring holder once we do get married to put in that space.

I had a little dish in the bathroom for putting our rings in when we showered, but Mr Popcorn kept forgetting his ring there until he put it next to his glasses. Since then, I’ve probably been the one to forget more often (the worst is when I forget it in the pocket of my workshop messy-pants in my locker overnight :( !) but we’re both pretty good.

He took it off twice within a few hours one saturday. I found it on the computer desk and then later on top of the washing machine. I told him if he didn’t want to wear it, I will.

He is super forgettful so I worry that he will take it off somewhere random and forget to put it back on. Yikes.

I love the sign. I’m making one tonight!

So far (only married a little over a week) the DH has been really good about it, only taking it off once or twice while playing sports. We’ve also gotten into the habit that I am the one to put it back on him each time. Not sure how long its going to last that way but its pretty cute when he comes walking up to me with the ring in hand and then places the left hand out in anticipation.

My husband forgot to wear his ring his first day of residency. First, he forgot his pager and calls me at 4:30am in a panic and makes me run to the hospital in my pajamas to bring him the damn pager. Then, the nurses are hitting on him all day and he can’t figure out why. He finally realizes it when another doctor he works with, who is married but does not wear his wedding ring in the hospital for personal preferences is trying to justify his reasoning for not wearing a ring at work finally just says “Why are you giving me a hard time, [my husband] is married too and he’s not wearing a ring either!” when my husband looks down and indeed realizes that his finger is naked. He was very quick to respond that it was an accident, and if it happened again, he would not have a wedding ring to wear at all. :oP

I take my e-ring off a lot when I am at home (sleeping, washing dishes, shower, and before I go to the gym), but I never take it off when I am out in public. Sometimes I forget to put it on over the weekends because we are in the house more.

Love this idea! I know Mr. H will “forget”…meaning he doesn’t usually wear nice jewelry and he’ll be paranoid he’ll lose it or scratch it (inevitable). I’ll def be borrowing your idea!

Mr. Lemon tried. And it really didn’t work. He’d fiddle too much and cause “ring burns” on his finger.
It sits in the drawer now, and it’s not too big of a surprise. But it comes out for special occasions/dress up parties. :)

Hubby is actually better about it than I am! He only takes it off if he is going to be golfing or if he is going to be lifting weights. Otherwise, he sleeps, eats, cooks, etc with it on.

I, on the other hand, take my ring off if I’m preparing dinner. I don’t want it to get yucky! Oh, and I don’t sleep or shower in it either!

:) becky

The hubs does not wear his ring, which is totally cool with me. My dad does not wear one either. Don’t really think a ring is going to stop someone if they really want to do something they are not supposed to be doing :)

He never, ever takes it off - unless I force him to. We had to pull the pump out of the fishpond last weekend, and it didn’t even occur to him to take it off. I had visions of us sifting through fishmuck for the rest of the weekend looking for it.

My DH has done surprisingly well with remembering. He had never worn any rings before we got married, so I was certain he would forget on a regular basis. However, we have been married a little over a year now and I can only think of 2 or 3 times that he has forgotten. He takes it off for showering and swimming, but other than that, it’s always right there. I have forgotten myself a few times and realized on my way to work. I drove back and got it each time because my finger felt too naked without it. :)

lemon, Mr Corn did the same thing. He played with his so much that he got a burn on his finger!! That finally healed, but he still apparently takes it off and twirls it on the desk at work sometimes.

I forget mine too sometimes….I take it off when showering or putting on lotion (don’t want to get gook in it so I can take it to be cleaned less frequently). It is weird how naked my hand feels without it now.

He forgets ALL THE TIME. So whenever I put my rings on, I just wear his as a thumb ring and hand it to him whenever he heads out the door. It works.

I would often forget to put on my e-ring at first b/c I took it off before going to bed. Now I take off both rings and put them near my earrings, etc. so I remember them. DH has forgotten to wear his several times over the past 2 months since the wedding. He takes it off at night. It’s become a bit of a joke between us.

Ditto to Mrs. Corn’s comment about her hand feeling naked without her ring… I feel the same way but I also get a goofy grin and think “Holy crap, we’re married” :)

@CarolineG and Jodi: Yes, technically he doesn’t NEED to take it off, but he does. He’s super protective of his ring. Since it’s platinum it does get scratched up pretty easily, so he takes it off whenever he’s moving stuff (we’re STILL not unpacked!), or doing anything with his hands a lot. Mostly he takes it off to wash the dishes - and I’m not gonna complain about that!!!

What a cute idea… I’m positive Mr. Champ will lose his in less than a month. I actually forgot to wear my e-ring a couple of days ago for the first time and felt NAKED- completely naked… like a bad dream.

FI and I moved in together just a few weeks after we got engaged and ever since then he put my engagement ring on my finger each morning before work. It was kind of like a sweet way to remember the proposal. Now that we are married, a year later, he is still putting on my rings each morning and now I put his on as well. That way he can’t forget!

@Mrs. Toucan:

That makes sense! FH’s ring is white gold and we got a warranty on it so if he scratches it up, they’ll buff it out for free. Hopefully we won’t have to utilize that service too much. :-P

Love your sign! My husband hasn’t taken his ring off since we got married (June) because he can’t! He wanted a tight fit so he would not have to worry about losing it. We knew this would be an issue in the ceremony as I didn’t want to be shoving it on his finger. I slipped it on to his knuckle and then he (hopefully) discreetly forced it on the rest of the way during the next part of the ceremony!!

Mr. Cherry Pie

I never take my ring off. I’ve been wearing a ring from Miss Cherry Pie for 7 1/2 years now (which happens to fit on my ring finger…she swears it was a coincidence) so after the wedding I’ll just swap rings and keep the new band on in perpetuity.

We have rings with wood inlays, so they can’t get wet, so we take them off fairly frequently when we’re at home but wear them when we’re out. The one time my husband forgot, he remembered halfway to work and turned around to come back and get it!!!

I recall a story about a bride who had the groom’s ring engraved on the inside with PUT IT BACK ON!

We’ve been wearing matching “promise” rings almost immediately after we started dating…going on 7 years now. This rings have evolved with time…from silver to gold plated to gold…I’m sensitive to metals so I don’t wear mine all day but he has NEVER taken his off for more than a couple of hours…once…in almost 7 years!!!

I’m always amazed.

My husband hasn’t forgotten his ring once (it helps he never takes it off)! I, on the other hand, have several times. Luckily, he is very understanding. :)

My husband has forgotten his ring once since we’ve been married (Almost 2 months now). He actually has 2 rings. When we got engaged I got him a mangagement ring ( A Tungsten Band) and when we got married he got a White Gold and Diamond Band. When he does his construction job he wears his Tungsten ring since it doesn’t scratch. The rest of the time he wears his regular wedding band.

As for me I wear my rings ALL the time. I know a lot of jewelers so my ring can get cleaned at any time

Have you thought of suggesting he doesn’t take it off? If he just keeps it on for 4 or 5 days straight, I bet he’ll be used to wearing it all the time and never take it off again!

I forgot to put my e-ring on after rubbing in hand lotion before bed one night, and woke up in a sweat from having a naked finger. If the quality of my sleep is dependent on wearing my rings, I hate to think how I’d do if FH and I had to spend a night apart.

My hubby never wears his ring. (I knew he wouldn’t - and it’s not weird because my dad never wore one) He does wear it for special occasions, dates, when we travel etc.

Really I kinda like it - because when I do see him wearing it - I know he had to think about it and it mattered to him to put it on. Always make me smile.

There have been times when we’re on the way to the airport or halfway through a road trip when we both realize he forgot it - so I try to help him remember on those occasions ;)
