It took my parents quite a long time to get used to the idea that their little farm girl would be moving away to Poland one day. At one time, Mr. Avocado was positive that his future wife would have to see Poland before making the decision to live there permanently, but after several months of dating we felt right about making the decision to marry without such a trip.

Once the seriousness of our relationship become clear to my parents, they really wanted me to go, and Mr. Avocado and I were completely on board. The decision to go was made only a few weeks prior to our departure date and so all of the planning had to happen rather quickly.

Eons ago, Mr. Cookie and I completed our wedding registry. I would say it was a pretty painless activity, but I learned more about knives than I ever dreamt of knowing!
As we completed this task way before I became a bee, there are no crazy photos of Mr. Cookie with the scanner (those things can be dangerous!), or me going cross-eyed as the salesman at Bed Bath and Beyond talked for an entire hour about knives. No joke! This cookie doesn’t joke when knives are involved! So, to compensate for the lack of photos, I have put together “The Cookies’ Guide to Registry Bliss!” My not-so-comprehensive 12 step guide — with tips and advice — on creating the ultimate wedding registry. Enjoy!

We had kind of a difficult time deciding what type of guestbook to choose. We thought about photo mats, polaroid guestbooks, etc. etc. Nothing seemed quite right. At the end of the day, Mr. Cream Puff really wanted a photobooth, so we decided to split the cost on it and get one. After that, our guestbook decision was an easy one.
Remember my photo album for our professional pictures (I mistyped my post and it was super confusing? Now maybe you remember, haha)? That was made for us by one of my old co-workers, who has gone into business making amazing albums. She also made us our guestbook, which is made to match.
Our table naming scheme is both the origin and the almost-terminator of our theme. I wanted to name the tables after Chinese teas because there are so many unique names (Iron Goddess, Monkey King, Jade Dew, Red Robe, Dragon Well, Buddah’s Hand… neat-o, right?), but the mister was insistent on doing something that relates to us like names of places we’ve traveled, as he has seen at other weddings. While I love that he cares for the personal touch, I really wanted something we could build a theme upon. After much hair pulling, I finally came up with a compromise that makes us both happy. Here are our table name cards:

Each insert include 2 fun facts about the wedding, which satisfies the ‘more personal’ requirement, and hopefully also serve as ice breakers for guests. The table name cards will sit next to the centerpieces like this:

Have I introduced you all to our kids yet? I don’t think I have!
Be forewarned - there will be lots of Anthropomorphism in this post.
Sebastian the Teacup Panther (or Black Housecat)
When Mr. Pomegranate and I started dating, I was already a proud single-mommy of a teacup panther called Sebastian (he’s really a standard black house cat). Sebastian was my guard kitty and kept me company during my single years when I lived alone. He is and always will be my baby boy.

Baby Sebastian at about 4 months old lounging and giving me his best “bedroom eyes.” What a stud.

Please welcome the latest drink to the hive, Miss Champagne!

Miss Champagne, DC/Vail, Colorado
Age & Occupation: 26, Eye doctor
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 27, Attorney
Engagement Date: March 13, 2006
Wedding Date: February, 2009
Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception
About Me: I’m a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we’re planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I’m secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I’ll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…
Congratulations to the winner - griffen!

Thank you all for your feedback on my shoe dilemma. Although I did not go with the winner of the vote, it was your insistence on picking the more comfortable shoe that really swayed my decision. I brought both pairs to my first dress fitting and took turns wearing them as the tailor hemmed and hawed over my gown. There was a noticeable difference in comfort with shoe #1. I was happy to stand there without needing to constantly adjust my posture. They are also very light and easy to walk in. I also love the idea of adding some cute shoe clips, and I would not be able to do that with the second pair.
They also seem to have a bit of a crush on my dress. I couldn’t tear them apart.
So they told us we couldn’t have peonies (unless, of course, we wanted them imported from South America for $1000 a case), and I was sad. I gave up and gave in to the inevitability of a peony-free wedding.
And then I had my first face-to-face meeting with our floral designer - and what she suggested was pure brilliance.
Dahlias.
I would have never, ever considered these beauties, because for the longest time I was under the misguided impression that all dahlias were brown bedraggled creatures, like the forlorn specimens in a neighbour’s yard.
Luckily for me, dahlias ac-tually come in many beautiful shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, and white. Considering that three of our wedding colours just happened to be yellow, pink, and white, it was a blessing indeed.

Every element of my bachelorette party was a blast, but the games were what really took the cake! I thought I would share some of the games that we played, for those of you who are currently or will one day find yourself planning a bachelorette party!
The Spinner. So simple yet ingenious! One of my bridesmaid put together a spinner for me to wear around my neck the whole evening. The idea was to have the guys I would encounter throughout the night take a spin, and then perform that action for me! And each time, my girls would of course be documenting it by taking all these pictures. Embarassing, perhaps even mortifying, but definitely a ton of FUN!
And the guys were all such good sports…!

Some photos from one of my bridesmaid’s mini photo session - a considerably abbreviated version of any and all dress orgies the rest of the women in my life went through. She’s so gorgeous!

So, we are t-minus 12-ish weeks until the wedding and quickly approaching bridal shower and bachelorette party time. My wonderfully wacky sister Kristina and bridesmaid Katie are planning the shindig to be hosted at Katie’s house. I have been mostly out of the loop on the plans for the parties, which is a-ok with me. (I have heard whispers about a possible mini-cake decorating contest, cheese, and certainly some line dancing!)

For our wedding, I’ve decided I wanted something… firmer… than the average ring pillow. In fact, I want to forgo fabric and plush entirely for a more “natural” look. And while I think the ever-popular Paloma’s Nest Ring Bowls are beautiful, they just aren’t quite what I’m looking for.
I want something that evokes a natural, rustic, ambiance without being puffy or floofy. I’m quite taken with these moss and twig “nests”…
1. Very pretty, but a bit too “puffy.”
I am so happy and relieved to say that, less than two months before the wedding, we finally have a band! I really don’t think there are words to describe what a relief this is. When our original band canceled, I started madly contacting whoever I could find and almost everyone was booked. Panic ensued and then some decisions had to be made. When we first started planning we decided that the three most important things to us (and therefore where we would spend the majority of our budget) were a great venue, a photographer, and a band. And there we were without one of the “big three.”
Being this close to the wedding, our budget is pretty much set in stone. All of our vendors are booked, contracts have been signed, so there is really not much room to cut things out or scale back to free up more money. But when we started scrambling to find a new band, we were hard pressed to find one at all, let alone find someone who was both available and in our price range.
So here is where I dispense some more of my sage advice (stop laughing). Seriously… listen carefully… lean in close… everything is negotiable!!
