About Mrs. Avocado

Before we left for Italy, I vowed that I would eat Roman gelato every single day. It wasn’t a difficult promise to keep.

I blogged about our trip and sent out the link to family and friends so they could read about our adventures and see all of the photos we took. You may have realized by now how much this avocado loves photography, and I become a little crazy when I can combine it with my other love, food. While on this trip I attempted to take pictures of every single thing we ate, which left me with an almost equal number of photos of Roman relics and squisito cibo (delicious food).

And then a few people asked me “Have you forgotten about the white dress you will be wearing in October and all of the people who will be looking at you?” Ick. Of course I haven’t forgotten, but I’m not going to eat soda crackers and celery while touring one of the culinary capitals of the world. I’m working on molding a body that I love like most brides are, but that is not the kind of encouragement I am looking for. And if you were wondering, the title of this post is a true statement, I really did lose 5 lbs in Europe!

Have you had to deal with any outside pressure to “look your best” for the wedding?

ha! I’m very pleased that you fit in good food on your trip, especially gelato! judgemental people can keep their comments to themselves.

When I went to Rome for 6 days in college, I had gelato every day, too (sometimes more than once!). It’s irresistible :-)

Aut says:

I had gelato–no joke–4 times a day when I was in Italy. It’s too good to pass up! Good for you for not restricting yourself so much you can’t enjoy a city full of great food! I didn’t gain either–it’s all that walking! :)

people are so rude! life is about moderation - restricting yourself to celery and crackers takes a lot of joy out of life (unless you find joy in celery, then more power to you!). what your negative folks aren’t likely remembering is that you probably did a TON of walking while you were away. with 5 pounds down, more than enough to make up for the gelato!

Lucky girl! I backpacked for 30 days, walked EVERYwhere with my 50lb backpack, and still managed to gain weight. I suppose its all the bread, wine, cheese and chocolate to blame… :)

I feel more inward pressure, I must say. But that’s what I get for choosing a backless dress, I suppose!

I think your body is beautiful. Don’t listen to those folks….

Mmm… I, too, found the gelato-every-day vow not very hard to keep!

I know this diet! The spend-so-much-of-your-time-walking-and-going-and-doing-that-you-can -eat-anything-you-want-while-you’re-traveling one, right? :-) Really though, I had the same experience — gelato everyday and weightloss when I came back. Too bad we can’t give credit to the gelato for the weightloss effects, right?

Ew, those are not-nice comments! Honestly, what would someone else care if your goal WAS to gain 15 pounds before the wedding?

Don’t let them get to you, and continue to enjoy the things you want to.

Guilty Secret says:

No outside pressure really, but I do find it very weird how people assume you’ll be trying to lose weight, whatever shape you’re in.

Catherine says:

How rude! I love how people assume that slimming down is automatically your overriding goal as a bride-to-be. Hello, you’ve just been to ROME?! I’d be asking about the sights, the people, and the amazing culinary experiences! How daft that all they think to comment on is your weight.

Besides, there’s nothing wrong with being a plus sized bride! The sad fact is that someone will always find something negative to say. If you came back and said you’d watched what you ate the entire time they’d probably roll their eyes at you. So, don’t let these people get to you cos it’s not worth it. :)

@Aut: Wow Aut, I thought I was working hard. What a dream that would be.
@Danathebride: I think the inward pressure can be good, especially in my case when I usually end up eating too much and feeling sick afterwards without it.
