I Wanna Eat It!

Mmm… donut…

I am a major stress eater. While generally speaking, I am neither unhealthy nor overweight, I still really despise my dependency on food for comfort. Resistance has always proven futile in the past, and made me crash that much harder when I gave up. As the wedding draws closer, my stress level is rising at what seems to be an exponential rate, which also means I’m eating that much more to ‘balance’ myself.

I am worried about gaining weight and not fitting into my dress, (I felt like I was my ideal size the last time I put it on) so in addition to putting all that crap into my body, I am also drinking Slimfast in the late morning to substitute for what could probably be a better meal. I know this is horrible, I know I should snack on carrot sticks instead, but at this stage in the game carrot sticks do not do the trick, people!

I’m starting to feel it though, you know that icky feeling you get when you eat too much crap? My junk food drawer is emptied in no time after each refill (please say I’m not the only one with a junk food drawer in the office). I have many more tasks to finish before the wedding, and I can’t get through any of them without chips/cookies/candy next to me. It’s serious countdown time for me now, and I must get to the finish line, August is… OMG IT’S HERE!

My usual response to anything pretty that I see (like Shortcake’s invites) is ‘I wanna eat it!’ Though most people realize it’s metaphoric, I can’t help but think it’s perhaps also subliminal…

And dang, all this typing is making me hungry…

Are you a stress eater too?

Huge stress eater here. All my married friends told me “dont worry, you will lose weight right before the wedding from all the stress.” Two problems with that:
1. I wasn’t stressed before the wedding
2. I eat like a pig when I am stressed.

Make sure to increase your exercise if you are eating a bit more. That way, your stress will go down from the exercise and you will burn more donut calories.

I agree….hmmmm donut!

I am such a stress eater too!! My wedding is in September and I’m so afraid of gaining too much weight because my dress is formfitting and it fit’s perfect right now! I enrolled in bootcamp 2 weeks ago with my bridal party to keep in shape, and so far it seems to be working, it even destresses me :)

Oh yeah, I am a major stress-eater. I’m very glad that I ride my bike to work everyday or else the dress probably wouldn’t fit anymore. I’m hoping that there soon comes a point where I will be too busy to eat all the time, but who am I kidding?
I also find that I’m eating a LOT more gum than usual. Have you tried that? Or distractions to keep you busy?

P.S. Lovely graph. It made me laugh, but that’s how I feel, too!

I’ve been taking my stress out on Ginger Snaps. I’m an August bride too and I’m a stress eater as well. I’ve been pretending to myself that ginger snaps are a much healthier cookie choice than perhaps something like oreos. Then again, the month of July I made myself a peaches and cream cheesecake every weekend.

Good luck!

I am just a eater period. I eat because I am stress, I eat because I am happy. I am always hungry and plan what I am having for lunch while I am eating breakfast. I wasn’t going to starve myself to fit into my wedding dress so I just made some modifications. Like Michelle mentioned, I excerise more (more means I didn’t do anything before and now I am walking twice a day). I started to reduce the amount of food on my plate. My junk food stash, you only have a drawer, ha I have a shelf (ok I shouldn’t be pround of that) is a much healthier selection. I try to find things to munch on that are low in carbs, high in protein and fiber. For insistance, soy chips, granola bar and cookies from Kashi, raw almonds, ect. And I limit my snacks so that at any one time I am just eating a small hand full. It has seem to keep me in check we’ll see when next week comes up.

HUGE stress eater and I’ve been very bad lately. In the next few weeks I am moving in with my fiance and his brother (Loooooong story) and starting a new job. I went from eating extremely healthy to eating junk all the time. And now I feel like junk all the time.

Oh, I totally have a junk food drawer in the office. It currently has two huge tablettes of Dove chocolate and a box of Smarties in it. One guy in my office has a junk food LOCKER.

Total stress eater!!!! I am NOT one of those lucky women who’s appetite disappears when they get stressed. Mine roars like a starving lion. My only way to combat the non-stop-round-the-clock-eating is to hit the gym at least 2 times a week, make sure I take as many walks a day as possible, and have a never ending supply of sugar free jello–it’s only 10 calories per cup :) Good luck!!!!

I am the opposite - I can’t eat when I’m stress. Stress makes my stomach and my head hurt - and when they hurt, I don’t want to eat. If I do eat, it goes right through me; if I don’t eat, my stomach hurts even more and I’ve actually been getting very dizzy and faint. I am not trying to lose weight, the dress is already sized to fit me, and I am so incredibly stressed. Not eating also makes my skin and hair dull, and more immune to getting sick right before the wedding. My trick has been working out. Working out takes away a lot of stress, and I’m always starving afterwards.

oh god yes, i’m a stress eater. however! one of my bridesmaids is a workout queen and she makes me text her everytime i eat something. also when i go to the gym or do other exercise. the worst? i have to email her my measurements weekly. accountability is key to fitting into your dress!

I know I can be a stress eater (I’ve gone the other way and under eaten from stress, too) so I just make a decision not to have the snacks around. there are only so many times I can go hunting in the fridge/pantry/junk food drawer before I give up and forget and find some other distraction.

Stress eater here. It’s not just stress though, I love food. I love cooking. And that ice cream maker we got as an engagement present isn’t helping.
I have been very diligent about packing healthy snacks and meals for work. I work 12 hour shifts, and at 3am it’s tough to avoid the snack machine! I also keep a handful of dove dark chocolates in my backpack for “emergencies” but never the whole bag.
I started weight watchers points about 2 1/2 months ago and lost 12 pounds so far. I didn’t change my workout schedule, either. Honestly, after the first 2 weeks, I didn’t realize I was on a diet anymore! (But I don’t count when I go out to eat, what’s the fun in that?) I love math so it’s like a game, and it allows you to eat what you love (within reason) and balance junk with healthy foods. I still fit into my dress AND I had to buy new jeans b/c the old ones are now too big!

I’m definitely a stress-eater… and a bored-eater. I am not overweight by any means, but at 5′1″, a couple of extra pounds show quickly. I just last week cleaned out my junk food drawer at work and rid myself of the M&M’s, Skittles, and Twizzlers. After putting them in the office kitchen, they were gone in minutes despite the 9 am timeframe. I also joined Weight Watchers… not to lose a ton of weight, but to get my mind where it needed to be in relation to food. They also have an online program. You should definitely check it out. I lost 2 lbs in the first week!

All the women in my family are stress-eaters. All of the women in my family have problems with being overweight. All of the women in my family stress each other out. This is a very bad combination, especially where wedding are involved!

One thing that’s saved me so far is my best friend/ MOH: she used to be overweight but is now a slim runner, and she’s always encouraging me to get outside and move. Find a source of positive peer pressure - it helps a lot.

Sadly, I’m a stress non-eater. For some reason it is NOT helping with weight loss. My body must know something is going on and is holding on to the fat for DEAR LIFE!

suzanno says:

Either way I think it’s a problem. I’m a stress non-eater, and although you end up losing instead of gaining, you still end up unhealthy. DH spent the weeks before the wedding cooking anything he could think of that might sound good to me.

I did find out something about myself I didn’t know - I’m also accident-prone under stress! I don’t remember being that way before, but maybe I just never noticed. I am the kind of person who ends up with bruises I can’t remember getting, and the couple of weeks before the wedding I couldn’t walk through a room without bumping into something. I did find out that it’s true that if you ice, ice, ice immediately after impact you really don’t bruise. Luckily. Interestingly whatever you banged up still hurts just as much…

hmm… guess i should stop being envious of all you stress non-eaters now… f* it, pass me the funyuns!

@groomzillaisme: it actually takes MUCH less time to do than taking and processing pictures of craft projects!! call me a geek but charts, to me, are also worth a thousand words…

I’m a huge stess eater and I have a food drawwer at the office. I tell myself it’s junk foood and itusually has some sort of chocolate or sweat flaovored stuff in it. I changed what actually resides in it and since then I actually lost weight. I that drawer I keep a granola bars (I like the cherry chocolarte the best) & special k bars, mostly the ones that have some chocolate and they are all only 90 calories a piece and not really unhealthy. I also get those 100 calorie packs of junk food. There are tons of differnet ones out there. This way I get by fix but limit my portions. Sometimes I keep a bag of those small sized candy bars or hershey kisses. They are great for stemming the chocolate craving but if you only have one or two you aren’t picking up many calories.

Blissful Bride says:

What a great post! I can totally relate. I think the closer I got to my own wedding the MORE I ate not the less. And, like you said, I wasn’t eating more healthy food… my best recommendation is the obvious, drink lots of fluids (to keep you full). And, of course, I always try to turn to gum. Sometimes that will get the need to chew (and subsequent relief of stress) out without the calories.

The bride with the donut photo is hilarious, by the way…love it!

Sarah says:

Very much a stress eater. During the “down time” in the middle of all my planning I lost 15 pounds (and all the stress weight put on during some rough patches of my life) but now the wedding is 2 months away and I’ve lost every iota of self control!

24.
ErinMarieMack says:

Yes! Finally other stress eaters! Everyone keeps telling me I will be so nervous that I loose weight. Not so much.

25.
Guilty Secret says:

Exercise will burn those calories and help relieve the stress… can you make time for say a 20 min walk each day? Seriously makes all the difference!
