Miss Candy Corn, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 27, Freelance Writer, Photographer and Illustrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Front End Web Developer Blogging Since: May 6, 2008 Engagement Date: November 10, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Our backyard! About Me: I’m a 27-year-old photographer, writer and illustrator who enjoys shooting weddings, catching typos in magazines, geeking out with Google Reader, watching Wonder Years marathons with my fiancé, and hanging out with our menagerie of pets. I’m an encore bride planning an intimate, offbeat backyard wedding with my fiancé (known around these parts as “The Ginger”), as we explore our adventures of homeownership.
About Miss Candy Corn

This past week has consisted of me staying up all hours of the night to write addresses on the outer envelopes of our invitations. At first I was really trying to do my best at mocking calligraphy, but once I got to the letter “D,” I was already done caring about curlicues and straight lines. As long as the invitations arrive in our guests’ mailboxes safely, I’ll be as happy as a little lamb.

The Invitations Are in the Mail : wedding invitations philadelphia Invites1 invites

Even though I had a cheat sheet with dark straight lines showing through the inside of the envelope and drew the names out in pencil first, I still managed to write crooked. Calligrapher I am not.

I am so excited to get these out there and to start hearing back from guests about whether or not they’ll be able to make it. Mr. Candy Corn volunteered to wake up at the crack of dawn today to go to the post office first thing in the morning so he can put on his best pout face and persuade them to let him hand cancel the envelopes. I’m crossing my fingers that everything goes as planned in post office land, but after hearing the horror stories, I have my doubts.

Now that I don’t have these to worry about anymore, I can move onto obsessing about other wedding things! I’m currently in the midst of drafting an uber detailed timeline (Miss Pom-style) for our vendors and wedding party so everyone will be prepared for the weekend festivities. I also plan to Gocco our wedding shower thank you cards tonight. Oh, did I mention our wedding shower is coming up next Saturday and I can hardly wait!? Mr. Candy Corn and I are having a couples shower, so I’m really excited to get to spend the day with him and our families and friends. My fabulous maid of honor, Melanie, is hosting it with Mr. Candy Corn’s mom at her house (Momma Candy Corn is helping out a lot too!). Then the day after our shower I have my makeup trial, which I’m hoping won’t result in me posting a recap about how much I look like Rupaul.

Anyway, I just wanted to post a little update about where I am with planning and why I’ve been a bit quiet around here. We’re only 72 days away, eep!!

Is anyone else itching to send out their invites?

They look great! I mailed off my invitations yesterday, only two weeks later than what I had planned!! Oh well. I still have a few to mail out that I finally got addresses for. But I am glad that it is mostly overwith.

@Miss Champagne: I totally agree! I remember you were thinking about going with a prominent, high-priced calligrapher at one point — believe me, you made the right choice! The envelopes look awesome, can’t wait to see the rest of the set!

Oh man, you make me feel so bad. My wedding is before yours and I’m just going to be stuffing them tonight! I think your calligraphy is great, btw!

I brought mine to the post office this morning.
My feeling was a mix of happiness and relief that I don’t have to do anymore folding, ribbon ironing, calligraphy and what not in the next nights. Can’t wait to see the RSVP in my mail box though.
And I guess we’re “lucky” with square envelops it’s hand done anyway as it can’t make it through the machine.
I’ll have to ask my dad or someone to take a picture when they arrive to see if it made any difference.

Hi, I just wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts! I lived in Philly for two years and I really miss it. You’ve picked a beautiful venue! I’m looking forward to reading as you count down the days. :)

Um, is that calligraphy for hire?

How about one beer per envelope? No? :)

On the off chance that you do end up looking like RuPaul, you know who to call!

I mailed ours Monday and I was thrilled and so happy to be rid of them! Best of luck with the post office… FI and I were not so lucky. We ended up with the rudest postal worker in Atlanta.

I’m so happy for you that you are finished with the invitations and they’re in the mail. Depending on who Mr CC had waiting on him at the post office, I’m not sure if his pouty face worked or if a crying bride-to-be would have been best. Hope he made out fantastic though. He does have a cute pouty face.

Anyway, we’re glad that our last name begins with a C, that way our invite will still have the curlicues. Can’t wait to get it in the mail so we know we are officially invited and to return our RSVP ASAP.

Another great job completed by my own little Miss CC.
