Snohomish

August 3rd, 2008 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

Untitled-36I dragged Mr. Milkshake to Snohomish, a small town boasting antique stores near Seattle, one weekend in the wicked heat to check out their antique stores for random bits of furniture. I walked away at the end of the day with a sweet vintage hat and a rekindled desire to use a milk glass cake stand at our wedding. Most varieties are white, but it might be neat to nurture my passion for complementary colors by featuring an orange mango cake on a 9″ blue stand. A white one can certainly double as very classic, functional, collectible…. and while the white is very understatedly simple, I am in love with their undersides. Here’s a smattering from a few I’m following on ebay.

I finally ended up buying this one, above and it came in the mail yesterday! So in lieu of the traditional tiered cake, we’re going to have a whipping cream mango cake atop this lovely collectible.

How are you planning on displaying your cake?

That cake stand is absolutely gorgeous. My mother has a milk glass cake stand that she arranges flowers and candles on year round and now i want to go try to find one too!

Milkshake, I was thinking about doing a variety of cake stands for my cake buffet, but I was starting to think that they would be too expensive to work. If I head over to Seattle to do a little antique hunting, what kind of a price would you say I can find them for? I don’t care if they match…..

Hee.

My mom always goes antiquing in Snohomish. It’s a cute little town. It has haunted saloons and yummie ice cream in their 100 year old soda shop.

Topic? That’s an adorable cake stand! Great find.

And remember, you speak fluent Sno-hom-ish! ;-)

i would say snohomish has cake stands that are $40-100 or so. i know ebay has a lot of non-vintage plates that aren’t too expensive, and etsy has a few. good luck!

Pretty! but if you still want a blue one - Martha makes a fab reproduction milk glass stand.

I have it in pink and it’s super cute.

Just a neat little tip, but my Mom has a similar cake stand and at showers we have thrown, we often turn the stand upside down, where the bottom is facing up. It’s hollow inside and we put fruit dip inside and then on the underside of the cake part we put assorted fruits. Obviously you wouldn’t do this for your wedding, just thought I’d let you know on another neat use for it.

I love the idea of having a few different cakes instead of one big cake and now I’m in love w/ the idea of having them all on antique cake stands. Wonderful idea Miss Milkshake :)
