A Rainy Day Kinda Weekend

August 4th, 2008 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Candy Corn

For having such a terrible weekend, I sure did manage to accomplish a lot! On Saturday afternoon, Mr. Candy Corn went out to visit his dad and take his little brothers out to get measured for tuxes (something that I had been nagging him to do for weeks). On Mr. Candy Corn’s way home, right before getting off at his exit, a guy in a car swerved into his lane without even looking or turning on his turn signal (I guess he realized, oh crap, I need to take this exit!), so Mr. CC had to quickly swerve to avoid getting hit, which made the car lose control and sent his car spinning across three lanes of traffic and into the concrete median on the side of the road, which totaled Mr. Candy Corn’s car.

The airbags went off and burned Mr. CC pretty badly on his neck and on his forearm, so he was rushed to the ER immediately. Luckily no one was driving behind him when he swerved across the three lanes, but the guy who caused the accident didn’t even bother stopping. Mr. CC reported him to the police (didn’t have time to get his license plate number of course), but there’s not much they could charge the guy with, apart from just being a wanker.

Right before leaving to rush out of the apartment to go to the ER, I realized how badly I needed to pee, so while peeing I was updating Mr. CC’s mom on the phone, on the verge of crying, and she was just like, “are you peeing right now?” Ha ha ha. I was like, “I NEVER PEE ON THE PHONE I’M JUST A MESS RIGHT NOW!” Note to self: Don’t pee on the phone with the mother-in-law-to-be when her son just got in a terrible accident! So yeah, this week will be filled with estimates and possibly a hunt for a new car. Mr. CC just bought this car a few months ago and only paid off a little bit of it, so he’s a pretty depressed Candy Corn. I tried to cheer him up with curly fries and a happy optimistic jig, but I don’t think it worked. I feel terrible that I wasn’t with him to hug him when it happened and really guilty for asking him to go visit his brothers to take them to get measured… stupid guilt.

Okay, onto happier thoughts. On Friday night I finished my thank you Gocco cards for the wedding shower, and on Saturday I was up until midnight finishing the cabinet that I was in the beginning of giving a makeover when I got the call from Mr. Candy Corn in the ambulance. I got some strange looks in the hospital’s waiting area since I had so much purple paint on my arms that I didn’t have a chance to wash off before leaving the apartment, but oh well. I also finished up our 16-page epic wedding weekend time line, which I’ll be sure to post about soon.

Anyway, on to photos!

Here’s the completely un-wedding related cabinet I redid…

Before:

After:

after1-
Refinished with purple paint & Michael Miller fabric (the mod podge was still drying, thus the darker spots in some areas)

Detail shot:

I love me some loud, clashing fabrics.

This weekend marked my second attempt at Gocco-ing (I’m still keeping it simple because working on anything too complicated makes me totally nervous). These will be our thank you cards for our upcoming shower:

I printed these on Paper Source’s pool-colored and luxe frost-colored cards.

Sorry if this post was ultra mopey, I’m just glad that Mr. Candy Corn is home safe and sound so I can pamper him and hug him to death every five minutes!

Did anyone else have unexpected drama take place a couple of months before the wedding?

That sucks about Mr. CC. Unfortunately it would have been better if that idiot hit him (as long as he didn’t get hurt more than hitting the median) to make the idiot accountable for his actions. The laws are ridiculous, that idiot should be held responsible but since he didn’t actually hit, he gets off the hook for driving like a jerk. Got to love PA (although, it probably isn’t just a PA thing).

I love your furniture make over. I want to get into that stuff but we need to finish unpacking and settling in our new home first (should wait until after the wedding, too…. too much going on!).

I love your shower thank yous! Too cute!

I’m so sorry that you guys are goin through that. That sounds eerily like my accident about a year ago and I know what mr. cc is going through too. The girl who served into me couldnt be charged with anything. The cop told me I should have let her hit me *wtf, right?*. My baby camaro was totalled in the incident and I shall never be the same without it. Well, at least mr. cc has you to do your little ‘jig’. hope you can cheer him up!

I’m so glad Mr. CC is alright! That totally sucks about the a-hole that swerved! I just have to believe that karma will bit him in the ass some day!

On a lighter note: You could totally have your own little furniture refinishing business!

Poor Mr. CC!! I had an accident similar to that one and hitting a concrete median is pretty traumatizing even if you’re not seriously injured.

On a lighter note, the cabinet is beautiful. I’m redecorating right now and really good inspiration. : )

I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope mr cc enjoys all the pampering you will be giving him. Also this may be inappropriate, but I laughed my fanny off when I saw that crying candycorn headed image! Good job

I’m SO glad Mr CC is okay and that you haven’t lost your wacky sense of humor about the whole thing (Heidi & Seal = LMAO)!

And yeah, that crying candy cornhead is kinda mesmerizing…

Nice job on the cabinet too.

And maybe you can Gocco up some nice custom bandages for Mr CC’s wounds?

As ever– you rock, Mademoiselle CC!

i’m so sorry! luckily he’s okay! i learned my lesson long ago: unless you’re about to be killed as a result, it’s better to let them hit you (rather than swerve).

I am so glad that Mr. CC is alright, I had that same thing happen to me a few years ago (okay not the exact same my car ended up in a grassy ravine and only needed an alignment but I did spin out of control b/c someone cut me off).
Also, your cabinet it AWESOME!

I was in pretty much the same situation 2 years ago - Guy tried to exit - I tried to avoid him, spun out of control into the median, totalled my first ever BRAND NEW car and fractured my knee/bad burns from the airbag.

The guy couldn’t be found so the accident was my fault and even though my insurance replaced the car - I lost quite a bit of money on the whole thing.

The important thing is that hes ok. This will be a hassle for a little while (and thats not a pleasant thing before the wedding) but focus on the happiness of the event and it will be ok. If you can, get a good lawyer to settle the case for you.

Your cabinet is unbelievably inspiring.

Good luck and hugs!

@Inna:
Thanks for the supportive words :) Unfortunately Mr CC doesn’t have collision covered in his insurance (he thought he did, long story), so the car is just done for. We can make SOME money out of it for scraps, but trying to repair it would cost more than the car. We still owe his parents a lot for it and now have to find out how we can afford a car for him before his new school year starts up at the end of the month. Sigh. Life is sucking majorly but we’ll get through it together.

Thanks for all of the lovin’ guys, you’re the best.

Miss X

In March, Mr. Y was in an accident one block from our house. He was crossing the intersection on his way home from work when the other driver sped through a stop sign at about 50mph, and Mr. Y hit him. The offending driver (OD) was tossed from his car as it flipped over, and landed on the neighbor’s chain link fence. It turns out that the OD had just put $15 of gas in his car and took off from the gas station without paying (hence his hurrying through the stop sign)…of course he didn’t have car insurance either (luckily Mr. Y’s insurance was good).

To make matters worse, we were suppose to be going to dinner with his family that night. When I got home from work, and noticed that his car wasn’t in the garage, I thought he had left because I was running late. (He hadn’t told me about the accident.) I didn’t want to disturb our dog, so I didn’t go in the house, I just drove off. Needless to say I left him stranded at home, and because my cell phone was broken (I know, crazy) he couldn’t call me to tell me to come back. When I found out the whole story, I felt absolutely terrible!!

I hope Mr CC heals up okay, and feels good about getting back behind the wheel.
