Mad About Damask

August 4th, 2008 @ 5:34 pm by Miss Champagne

When I started looking at linens for our tablecloths and napkins and such, there was one pattern I couldn’t get out of my mind. Now I didn’t really know what it was called- but I explained to our coordinator, Joann, that I knew the pattern had swirlies and flowerly patterns but not really flowers. Pretty lousy description, but she sent me back some fabric swatches from bbj linens and cloth connection, and I found my second (wait, doggie Champ is my second- so this is my third) love… damask.

As I looked at the swatches, I realized there was a funny similarity between our sofa pillows, our napkins and place mats on our dining room table, our bed comforter, my nightgown, towels, and even one of my favorite dresses- they were all damask! You may notice my clear demonstration of “vagina arms”, so eloguently described by Miss Candy Corn. I can’t believe I never noticed that before.. :(

Now I know I’m not the only one who has ever loved this print- there are so many ways to incorporate damask into your wedding… starting with the save the dates, and ending with your favors there is ALWAYS room for a little damask!

Our save the dates are actually a magnet from Vistaprint, (on sale 50 for $7.00)and behind our picture is a damask background. Simple, but I thought it was pretty.

I continued the damask theme by attaching the magnets to a notecard with an embossed damask pattern by Crane and Co 12 for $15.00.

During the reception and ceremony, there are many details that will include an overall damask theme. Here are some of the ideas that have inspired me.

Possible rehearsal dinner dress by Tommy Bahama.

Labels for favors, out of town bags, or even invitations!

Damask box with stationery for thank you notes!

Mint tins for the bathroom basket or as to-go favors!

Toasting flutes for champagne! There’s one thing Mr. VG and I agree on more than anything- we’ll have a continuous flow of champagne at our wedding- we both love it!

This guest book comes in ivory and pink! Very pretty.

Who doesn’t love a damask flower girl dress… so cute!

How about a damask wedding dress?!oooh lala!

Or a damask tie?!

If you’re into Damask linens and place settings, BBJ linens has incredible inspirational pictures. The designs are so elegant. I love the table setting below, and it’s one of many pictures that makes me want to change our color scheme! (image source BBJ linens)

And for the sweet tooth:

The final touch on the wedding. These cakes give me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

The black and white cake is so unique, and the pink cake is so fun because it’s a DIY project! You use culinary stencils to create the patterns you want… I love it! For our wedding, if I used the stencils, I picture an ivory frosting with gold/bronze damask print.

And after the wedding is over… relax on the beach!

I’m mad about damask!! Any other inspirational damask ideas I should see?!

I’m not so crazy about Damask, but the damask dress and tie combo would really be the business! Do it, do it!

I’m tempted to go with black and white damask as a wedding theme - it’s so elegant. But then, I’m not really an elegant person, so I’m probably going to go in another direction.

Just an aside - it looks like the tie you posted is a paisley pattern, not a damask pattern. I like the white on white, though.

@MissCandyCorn: it may be a combo of vagina arms and a little spillover - totally never noticed it before… oops!

Miss Champagne I am obsessed with damask too, and I have it all over my house including a bedspread! It all started with a cute lunchbox I got online at Miss Mousey dot com. I know it is not wedding related, but I thought you might enjoy it!

LOL, Miss Champ– I actually bought that Tommy Bahama dress a size too big during my desperate search for something to wear to my cousin’s wedding. Alas, my own.. um… “flutes” do not runneth over, so– even if I’d gotten alterations, I couldn’t do it justice.

The dress seems to be sold out now at both Zappos & Nordstroms, so let me know if you are interested, as I haven’t mailed it back yet. It’s a size 4. :)

There is so much fun stuff out there! A close friend just had a beautiful damask wedding. Miss Sundae always gave her a lot of inspiration! I keep seeing it at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Target, etc, so you should be able to have fun with it.

You could use the theme on your wedding website as well. Like with this one:

I love damask too, especially for weddings. It’s classic yet trendy. I have a children’s boutique and custom make a classic turqoise damask dress for little girls. It can be worn as a shower, party or rehearsal dress for a flower girl, especially for a wedding with a damask theme. Check it out.

I also offer matching bib, burp cloth, loveys and blankets that can be used with the dress or as gifts for babies, children in the wedding.

Damask gift wrap for the card boxes… I saw this today and had to report it back:)

If you did the “boxes stacked to look like a cake” look, you could alternate damask box, black (or white box — or hot pink for that matter!) and damask box with a ribbon/bow that matches your scheme (champagne, of course)

Black and white damask gift wrap
