Shopping for the Little Girls

August 4th, 2008 @ 11:56 am by Mrs. Pinot Noir

I was lucky enough to have the chance to go shopping with my nieces for their flower girl dresses! Since they live in Minnesota and I live in New York, I wasn’t sure if I would get the chance to go with them or not. But we were able to squeeze in a quick trip to David’s Bridal when I was home for our wedding shower.

My two nieces, Madeline (age 7) and Elizabeth (age 5 1/2), will be our flower girls. Neither of the girls have been in a wedding before so they are pretty excited! They had lots of questions like, “What color will the dresses be?” and, “Do we have to match?” Other questions included, “Will we have real flowers? What color are they baskets?” And my personal favorite, “Is there a ring boy?”

The girls tried on many dresses, and each dress was tested for: twirl capability, sparkles, and scratchiness. These two dress passed the test. Each girl liked a different dress and I couldn’t choose one over the other, but I didn’t mind because they are similar enough.

Madeline choose Davids Bridal Style FG9010 ($99) and Elizabeth picked David’s Bridal Style H8475 ($139).

The dresses were ordered one size up for each girl, to allow for extra growing room. They will go back in about a month before the wedding for the fittings to make sure that they are the right size on the big day.

Are you having flower girls? How did you pick their dresses?

Very pretty choices. I actually found my dress online, it was an easter dress. :) The girls were adorable in them, we had two. Their mom’s had to bribe them out of their dresses when they first got them.

Here is what their dresses looked like:

I’m having a flower girl - my goddaughter. We actually haven’t picked out a dress yet, but I’m hoping when I go back to New Orleans for my final fitting, we’ll do some flowergirl dress shopping.

Too cute! My flowergirls didn’t want to take their dresses and slippers off. The DB ballet flats are so comfy. Perfect for dress up after the wedding!

Mine has the same dress! (The one with the cap sleeves.) I’m slightly embarassed to admit now that it is exactly like my dress. She (dsd) saw it and realized it and in the rush of buying all of our dresses the same day we were like, “OMG, how cute!” Now I sort of regret that. :( But she’s still adorable in it!

We ordered hers a size up, too. We’re trying it on with her shoes tonight and I think that will eliminate a need for bringing the hem up - but the sleeves are definitely going to need to be fixed. They’re ridiculously long on both of our dresses.

Those dresses are so beautiful. I went with something with a little more color. I tried to stay away from dressing them like me. My bridesmaids dresses were not white either. I bought four dresses from Everythingnicefinechildrensclothing and they came beautifully wrapped and cheap too.

How cute are they?? It almost makes me want a flowergirl…except I don’t know any children and we aren’t having any at the wedding anyway!

@Katharine: Originally Mr. PN and I weren’t going to have children in the wedding but I knew how much it would mean to them to be part of the day. Our ring bearer is his half-brother (5 1/2 years old). These three will be the only kids at the wedding.

We are having 5 kids in our wedding. We are having a flower boy and a flower girl, a ring bearer, and two juniors. All three of the boy’s tux’s and the junior girls dress we got on ebay for $15 - $35 (including shipping). The flower girls dress we got at Sears for $15.

For anyone who is looking for Flowergirl Dresses, you have to check out this site. It is Girlsdressline.com

I was extremely picky when it came to what my flowergirls would be wearing. Part of the dilema was that I really wanted the girls to stand out, not to mention I wanted them to wear something totally different then your typical flowergirl dress. I don’t know how my mom found this site but I was so excited when I saw they had beautiful dresses that were under $100. The dress I ordered for my two flowergirls actually cost under $70.00, and are BEAUTIFUL! When they came in I totally inspected them and had one of my girls try it on, she instantly fell in love.

I’m not big on recommending sites but considering the quality & prices of their dresses, I had to let the rest of the Hive know about it.

Choosing the perfect flower girl dress can be difficult at times. Usually the bride will request a certain color to choose from. Most importantly, you’d want to give yourself 6-8 weeks to start looking and perhaps choose a 1 size up as you said, in case they grow out of it. For convenience, looking online can be a good idea at times if you want variety.
