Our Entryway Cake Table

August 5th, 2008 @ 5:25 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

To answer Miss Seabreeze’s comment on yesterday’s cupcake post, why yes, I WILL be making some cute little signs to guide guests to their flavor of choice! In fact, I’d like to showcase each flavor on our cupcake table, which will be front and center on a table in the foyer. I think it’ll make a fun, creative entryway arrangement for guests to ogle upon their arrival before heading up to Olive Hill.

The foyer in the R.H. Phillips Winery Tasting Room - our cupcake table will sit where the large barrels currently reside.

While I haven’t yet created the cupcake flavor signs, Mamita Pom came up with a genius idea to showcase each flavor in a cutesy fashion. We will be covering one of each flavor under its very own cloche, just as the cupcakes shown below. Mind you, I knew nothing of cloches or “row covers” before this, but I now know that they are used to shield delicate plants from the cold and undesirable pests. In this case, the use is somewhat similar!

Not only was I unfamiliar as to the usage of said cloches, but I was also very unfamiliar with the cost of these suckers - they’re EXPENSIVE! We’re talking a normal cost of $15 - 50 for each teeny little jar. If it weren’t for my good friend eBay, this idea would be in the trash can. Luckily, I was able to find a seller with a bulk quantity willing to part with 3 of them for only $6 a piece. I snagged them immediately!

This is one of the exact bell jars I purchased off of eBay. I’ve tried to photograph them in action, but the cupcakes are always gone before I get a chance!

Lastly, we will be showcasing the gorgeous lofty ceilings above the cake table with these sparkling little accoutrements - a half a dozen of these 7″ Black Chandelier Ornaments that I snagged from the White Aisle sale back in April. Fishing line tied to the cable lighting above the table will mount these puppies at variable lengths and create a modern canopy above.

Sadly, they’re sold out!

Thanks to your help - we’ve decided to buy cake stands at variable heights to display the remaining cakes. They will all sit atop a square damask topper I made with some remaining fabric. There you have it - our entryway cake table!

Is anyone else placing their cake table in an odd location?

I like the idea, but I do have a word of caution…My BIL is allergic to gluten, so we did a HUGE chocolate table with enough chocolate for 100 guests, it looked like Willy Wonka on acid. Anyway, it was the first thing you saw when you came into the venue and it was beautiful…and it was all gone in the first 15 minutes. There was a tired cheesecake that was meant to be cut as the groom’s cake…people ate that too. It was nuts. Just be careful about leaving it up to your guests.

It was like a wild pack of dogs came through there. It looked like a bomb went off and we had to look at it for the next 4 hours. I actually cried, because I had picked out all the chocolate and I was 8 months pregnant as well and emotional.

Thanks guys!!

@KateMW: That was my first concern as well! However, there will be an attendant watchin’ like a HAWK - as the gift table and stuff will be nearby as well.
