About Mrs. Cherry Pie

If you’re one of Mr. Cherry Pie’s groomsmen you probably should stop reading. That means you: Jason, Karl, Tom, Mark and Micah.

Right. Like there’s any chance they’re reading this right now… nevertheless! I (Mr. Cherry Pie, that is) got started on finding gifts for my groomsmen relatively late in the game. By late, I mean that Miss Cherry Pie had several projects in the works at least a month or more before I even considered what to get my groomsmen.

I suppose I could have just gotten them ties, but I think that matching ties would be a pretty mild “Thank You” in exchange for driving out to Montana and buying suits on my behalf, don’t you?

As Miss Cherry Pie posted some time ago, I have been very taken with assorted high end shaving products ever since my birthday. I considered buying my groomsmen their own safety razors, or badger brushes or sets. Sadly two things are wrong with that. They aren’t nearly as likely as me to take an extra 20 minutes in the bathroom for something as novel as shaving and I wasn’t quite ready to spend $200+ per person on my groomsmen. But I was on the right track… I wanted something that spoke to our essential masculine nature of the days of yore.

Pocket knives! I ran across these classic burlwood knives while looking at razors. Again, $200+ per person just wasn’t possible for five groomsmen, but the idea had stuck.

If you’re getting married in Montana and your groomsmen are without pocket knives, what happens if a moose charges or you need to cut a new lasso to rope a steed?

Anyway… Thanks to that pretty folder up there, I had discovered the world of French folding knives. Sadly I couldn’t make the trip to Thiers, France before the wedding, but thanks to the power of the internet, I eventually found some more affordable Chambriard pocket knives.

While not quite as nice as Manu Laplace’s pieces, they were within budget and were still really pretty… er… I mean… masculine… looking! I originally could only find five variations so I ordered one matching double for myself. But the fine folks at World Knives even put an order in with Chambriard for a 6th knife with a different handle so we could each have a different handle. The 6th knife arrived in record time and I sent back the spare knife I had purchased. They also all come with a complementary leather case. A complete set for the guys! Aren’t they pretty?

Are you purchasing any outside-of-the-box gifts for your groomsmen?

Not sure if this is “out of the box,” but we got our groomsman personalized pub signs. They LOVED the gifts and they were only about $40 a piece.

Those are great, but how are they gonna get them on the plane?! Also, Mr. ST too is a connoisseur of shaving equipment. He used to use L’Occitane’s shave cream but has now moved on to the Art of Shaving line. What do you use?

@Miss Sweet Tea: Some of our dudes are driving, others will probably check a bag on the way back home!

Mr. CP is using shaving soaps and a lather brush at the moment. I’ll let him fill you in on what types. :)

I use a Merkur safety razor, Feather or Super Platinum Israel blades, Acca Kappa white moss shave soap, a basic badger brush and Acca Kappa white moss aftershave.

I’ve also used Honey Bee Spa’s shave soap and they work quite well too and come in many scents.

After the wedding I am resuming the process of learning to shave with a straight razor again…

We got them all wallets according to their style…preppy, surfer, etc…then we got them all cool enviro shirts from swell, some cool socks to wear the day of the wedding as well as after and they are are getting black william and sonoma aprons. because we are having an italian dinner buffet and the whole bridal party will be wearing aprons so they don’t get their dressy clothes dirty….we will see if that happens just thought it would be cool photo ops.

We wanted to do something out of the box that is more down to earth. Our guys are not the flask and pocketwatch guys of tradition.
We are buying nice size coolers (about 40-50 cans) and personalizing them with vinyl stick on letters from Hobby Lobby (ie. Tom’s Rolling Rock or Spoda’s Soda) and filling them with their favorite beverages.

You’re making this French girl happy. Although my heart always goes for the Laguiole knifes because they are made in the region I grew up.
My dad always has one in his pocket especially when he is out in the mountains. They always come handy.
