Pin Me Up Mahin

August 6th, 2008 @ 5:58 pm by Mrs. Cookie

Yesterday, I braved the horrors of I-25 traffic with my mom to attend my first dress fitting at Anna Bè.

We arrived at the salon 10 minutes late (I hate you traffic for making us late!), and we were greeted by the lovely seamstress at Anna Be, Mahin. She is a true gem. Her Eastern European accent is charming, and she is a wit of one liners. I laughed through the whole fitting! Unfortunately, she would not let me take her picture :( because as she put it, shoots of her usually entail her behind while pinning and are not flattering. Although bummed, I obliged.

Warning: Mr. Cookie read no further!

I slipped into my dress for the first time, and it fit perfectly! I’m so glad I got a size 10, instead of the recommended size 14. The dress needs very little alterations: sewn in bra cups, shoulder straps shortened, and bustle – that’s it! Yippie!

My biggest decision of the evening: to French or tradtional bustle.

French Bustle

Tradtional Bustle

Ultimately, I went with the traditional bustle because it complements the ruching on the sides.

After I was all pinned up, it was veil time…

Here is my ceremony veil

And here is my reception veil

I have another fitting in three weeks, and if all is well, I get to take this baby to Mama Cookie’s house for safe keeping until the wedding.

Have you had your fittings yet? How did it go?

The traditional bustle matches the dress perfectly! You are really rocking that reception veil, how fun to switch!

Love your dress, Miss Cookie! I think you made the right bustle choice, too - it really “works” with the dress.

@Miss Cookie: I would love to come to the happy hour, but alas I’m planning my Denver wedding from NYC. Boo! I grew up in Denver and LOVE it–hope to return for good someday.

@AnnieBelle: It’s Sara Gabriel http://www.saragabriel.com/. I am met her at the trunk show at my bridal salon Anna Be, and I am in love with her. My reception veil is the Louise and then I had her add the Marielle headpiece to it.

Love the bustle choice. Good thing you ordered the correct size. Salons always push the larger size (so you will have to pay to do alterations. Sneaky).

Hannah, I feel your pain — I’m a Golden native planning my Colorado wedding from New Jersey. Planning from out of state is really hard!

@californiaborn: To be fair, my salon was actually the one who suggested I get a size 10. That was they sample size I tried on, and it fit perfectly. Although, from my measurements the designer suggested I get a size 14. Sizing never makes any sense!

I’m so glad you went with the traditional bustle - it hardly even looks bustled, just like a really cool dress!

And rocking two veils? Sweet ;)
