The Big Day: Getting Ready

August 6th, 2008 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

Where was I? Oh yes, last time I told you about our Rehearsal Dinner. Now it’s time for the big day! Get ready for photo overload.

I got a great night of sleep and woke up at 7am. This gave me time to chat with Mama Gingerbread before Sister Gingerbread showed up to take me on my wedding morning errands. Mama Gingerbread stayed behind to work on the bouquets.

First we went to the reception restaurant so that we could set up the crane escort tree, drop off the photo printer, the box of props, the table numbers, the luggage tag place cards and get a look at the layout of the tables. The restaurant had a party the night before and the rentals that they had ordered for our reception were just arriving when we got there. Unfortunately, we didn’t have very much time to hang around to make sure things looked the way I wanted them to. Instead, I delegated to my sister by telling her my vision and asking her to come over to the reception before the rest of the guests arrived to make sure things looked okay.

After Sister Gingerbread and I left the restaurant, it was back to Beautymark where Jackie did my makeup.

Photo by Aki who was with the GB 2.0 entourage and ran into me at Beautymark

Miss GB 2.0 arrived for her appointment just as I was finishing mine. I scooted home since I’d given myself less than an hour to hop into my dress, do my hair, and eat before meeting up with Miss GB 2.0 at the hotel where our car would pick us up.

I have no idea who took this photo of me hustling up the stairs.

At this point it starts becoming a blur. Mama Gingerbread was there along with our photographer, Carlton, our videographer, Michelle, and her partner, Vero, and Sister Gingerbread. I only know this because I have pictures to compensate for my foggy memory.

So how do I go from everyday wear Miss Gingerbread to bridal Miss Gingerbread in less than an hour?

Step 1: (See Above…this is sort of cheating since it was already done earlier) Make up

Step 2: Doing my own hair

Step 3: Sister Gingerbread magically places my birdcage veil on my head. I say that it was magic because I struggled hardcore with this thing the night before. I’ll tell you this story in another post. It involves Miss Sweet Tea and scissors! Anyway, Sister Gingerbread got it in place and firmly bobby pinned to my head in a matter of minutes. All of her practice as a mother of two girls paid off for me!

Something blue? I grabbed GB 2.0’s robe so that I could run around the house while being documented.

Step 4: Getting into the dress. Honestly, I’d gotten myself in and out of my dress about 10 times by now, but I asked Mama Gingerbread to help since I figured that would make for nicer photos than when I use my contortionist moves to do it myself.

Step 5:Getting into the shoes.

Step 6: Taking that plate of crackers and cheese, the only food in the house that Sister Gingerbread could find, (not pictured) and eating it in the car while Carlton drives me to meet Miss GB 2.0 at the hotel.

Phew! It’s time to finally see Miss GB 2.0!

you really do look beautiful. I love how it’s low-key and exciting at the same time. It’s a special day but the focus somehow seems more on the act of getting married than transforming yourself into a princess for a day. Thank you for sharing your pictures. I love them!
