Unexpected Inspiration

August 6th, 2008 @ 5:35 pm by Mrs. Avocado

The next stop in our wedding whirlwind adventure was my favorite antique store in all of Seattle. While browsing the aisles I passed by this postcard display. I haven’t decided for sure yet, but there is a chance that I will be basing our guest book on this tree. We will attach vintage-eque postcards that we create using photos from Washington and Poland and have guests pluck their favorite option and write some well wishes. The postcards will be all ready with postage, and my mom will be in charge of dropping one or two in the mail every few days for us to collect over time.

I *LOVE* pictures, and I could likely use all kinds of fun ones for this project, even a few childhood shots of the Mr. and I from when we were kids.

In what unexpected locations have you stumbled upon wedding inspiration?

Antique stores are the best for inspiration! I don’t usually plug my blog in comments, but I am actually in the middle of ‘antique week’ on mine :) http://wemetinabar.com Vintage stuff is full on personality, and a great way to recycle!

So, my most unexpected source of inspiration came from a circa 1960 Scribner Library Classics book cover–specifically this one: http://www.amazon.com/BABYLON-REVISITED-Scribner-Contemporary-Classics/dp/0684717573/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_i only in the mint green of the original title–The Great Gatsby (which I have a copy of that belonged to my mom). Really graphic book covers as a rule are very inspirational to me–if you’re interested, my MOH sent me an awesome book-cover-devoted website that I can share with the hive! :-)

@Heather: I don’t usually encourage blog plugging either, but everyone should visit Heather’s blog, she really has some great ideas!

@elizabeth: I would love to see this link, did you know I am using a “book” theme for the wedding as well? The quote that will be plastered all over the place is “Are we not like two volumes of the same book?”

@Miss Cherry Pie: It won’t happen again! And I’ll try and get the name of that store to you, I know we visit it all the time.
