Makeup Trial Inspiration!

August 7th, 2008 @ 4:24 pm by Mrs. Candy Corn

This Sunday is my first (and hopefully final) makeup trial!  I am absolutely clueless when it comes to makeup (I like Burt’s Bees lip gloss, does that count?), so I’m looking forward to seeing what my face looks like with makeup plastered all over it.  Hopefully I won’t come out looking like RuPaul, but if I do, at least I’ll be able to entertain you guys with some dragtastic photos!

Now, who wants to see the photos I’m bringing to the trial for inspiration (do other people do this or is this way anal of me)?

I’d really love to have a natural, simplistic look for our wedding day. Since I have big eyes and long eyelashes, I feel like too much mascara or eyeliner isn’t really a good thing (I could be totally wrong though!). I also have dark circles under my eyes, so the smoky eye thing looks pretty zombietastic on me unfortunately.

I’ve always loved Sophia Bush’s style and glowing nature about her.

Natalie Portman’s makeup is always so elegant and classy and not over the top, which I heart.

People tend to tell me I look like Christina Ricci (probably due to my large head), so I figured I’d include a photo of her all glitzed up.

I prefer the “Lost In Translation” Scarlett over the “He’s Just Not That Into You” Scarlett, but either way she’s incredibly gorgeous and I’d steal her face any day.

Kate Winslet. Major girl crush alert!!

*Swoon* Zooey Deschanel is flawless in my opinion.

Any advice on which of these looks might suit my face best?

What celebrities are you looking to for makeup inspiration?

I don’t have any advice… I just wanted to second the ::swoon:: over Miss Zooey. I’m hopelessly in love with her.

I think Natalie Portman’s balance of smoke and sparkle is really beautiful for brides and you have a similar look to hers.

I also think bringing pics is soooo normal and smart! I brought pics to mine for sure! (Carrie Underwood, hehe)

I think the pics of Natlie, Sophia, and Christina are the best to bring (especially of Natlie, or of Christina if you want a brighter eye look). The other three photos (particularly the one of Kate Winslet) look like they’ve been photoshopped or digitally altered. Your makeup artist will best be able to imitate looks that are women as they actually look in real life so that might be the route to your best satisfaction. These are wonderful inspriations!

I too love Natalie Portman’s looks, but her eyes are always pretty smokey, which you say might not be good. The first picture of the cute Gilmore Girl or Sophia Bush might be nice, with a little bit more lip color. These are all good inspirations though!

The pictures are DEFINITELY a good idea. One of the hardest thing for a makeup artist is when your client has absolutely NO CLUE what they want. Those pictures are pretty cohesive and will really give your makeup artist a great guide to go off of.
I think those pictures will help create a great natural look for you.
You will look like you amazingly woke up that morning looking impossibly flawless, dewy, and rosy cheeked, which I think will be beautiful! :)

I love your sample pics! I don’t think I would be able to pick one look to focus on. ;) Your makeup artist will be able to help you choose the best look for you.

these inspirations look good! i agree with the person above who pointed out that Natalie’s eyes are a bit smokey which you may not like, but since you’re going to an artist i am confident that they will use concealer under your eyes and that will eliminate those under eye circles and the smokey look would look great!

Just so you know- it takes a surprising amount of makeup to “look natural”. i’ve been doing a lot of makeup research (bc i’m diy’ing my own wedding makeup) and have learned that the key to the fresh faced “natural” look is a FLAWLESS complexion. in order to achieve that on some women you have to use more concealer, foundation, and powder. Just know that going in…..

And please speak up if things aren’t going the way you’d like! don’t worry about hurting her feelings, if she’s a professional, she wants to make u happy so tell her if there is something you dont like it can be changed right away!

I just had my trial and my makeup artist had to ask a lot of questions to determine what I want. Pictures will DEFINITELY be helpful. Have fun and good luck!!

That’s a great selection. Definitely take them all with you - they need to see what you mean.

i’m commenting on this a month late, so my opinion doesn’t really count, BUT.. i love love love alexis bledel. not only because i’m moderately obsessed with gilmore girls, but because she’s beautiful in such a unique way. she’s doesn’t look like the typical hollywood beauty, and i think that’s fabulous. that picture is beautiful and ethereal, and i think it would make perfect wedding day make up. if i had any chance of looking like that (which you do) i’d go for it!
