The Address Round-Up

August 8th, 2008 @ 11:00 am by Mrs. Sea Breeze

One of the most painful part of sending out wedding invitations has got to be gathering all the mailing addresses.

I once read about a bride who elected to send out a witty, cheeky email which I’m sure made everyone laugh.

It’s just another example of how even the littlest things you do will set the tone for your wedding day. (I don’t know about you, but I’m betting that her wedding is going to be a hoot!)

This reminded me of the email that my own Mr. Sea Breeze (a.k.a. Mr. Ham) sent out to the masses:

Hey,
So it’s a sad sad day for the ladies around the world: Mr Sea Breeze is almost officially off the market. Now is your chance to get a golden ticket to witness this momentous occasion. If we’ve spoken recently, you know how much fun I’m having planning wedding stuff so if you love me and feel my pain please please please reply to this email (no need to do a ‘Reply All’ mom) with your mailing address ASAP.
Thanks,
Mr SB & Miss SB – a.k.a. The New Boss of Me)

P.S. If you think you’re on this list by mistake and that I should already have your address, I thank you for thinking that highly of me but you’re wrong, please send it anyway!

Yep, that’s my man. And that’s why I love him.

Did you find a more pain-free way to gather mailing addresses?

That’s actually brilliant. If my FH had an office job, I’m sure that’s what he would have done. For his side of the family, I went straight to the information super highway….. I asked his Mother. :-P For his friends, he was coming home from work with random pieces of paper with addresses (a lotto ticket, a receipt, etc).

My approach for gathering addresses was to create a google docs spreadsheet with our list and the appropriate columns, then share it with DH and our parents. Everybody updated the ones they knew, so we only had to do some internet research or email a handful of those who were missing.

Ha adorable! I esp love the “reply all part”- my Mom would do the same.

I’m relying on our respective mothers to get most of the addresses for our family, and we know where most of our friends live, they’re local.

LOVE the email! I wish I had been that creative. Our address round up was a not so fun email, and facebook were our most helpful tools.

No painless way here. Almost everyone has been cooperative except for my FH mom! I have been asking for a list and addresses 4 months!! Last list I got from her included 4 people without addresses and a note on the bottom that said 4 MORE names and addresses to follow. Still haven’t gotten them. STDs go out in the beginning of Sept.

Love it! We sent a similar but slightly less humorous email to friends & family :-)

:) Like others, I went straight to the source - the moms. For everyone else, the search feature in my gmail was super handy. If there were any stragglers, then emails and phone calls were made. :)

I am going to hijack my sister’s lovely and organized Excel spreadsheet from her wedding. (she got married in April) Since we are mostly having family and a few family friends most of my side should be on there.

FH on the other hand. Not so sure about. His address book is organized on some very complicated system of subject rather than last name. (ex. Cousins are listed under their father’s name which is listed under U for uncle) I think he may have to translate for me.

I’ve been emailing / Facebooking people individually… it’s amazing how many people don’t just hit reply! I would be so excited to receive a wedding invitation I’d pass my address over quick!
