Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). About Mrs. Sea Breeze

Del.ici.ous-ly Organized

August 11th, 2008 @ 3:55 pm by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Apart from Google Reader, there are a couple other web tools that I simply cannot live without.

Right at the top of the list is del.icio.us - a genius way to organize all your bookmarks in one place.

Oh del.icio.us, how I love thee, let me count the ways:

1. Your web-based loveliness means I can access my bookmarks no matter what computer I’m on and tells me you love me enough to let me go whither I want, and trust me to come back to you.

2. I adore how you’re so confident about your awesomeness that you don’t need a flashy interface; your clean and simple look lets the beauty of my link style shine through.

3. The way you let me pick how I want to describe the links tells me that you like me just the way I am (and that you’ll let me be bossy when I want to be).

4. Your flexible tagging system allows me to organize my links in the way that makes sense to ME. It means so much to me that you understand the way my kooky brain works.

5. Your willingness to create a toolbar extension for me to install that lets me add a bookmark and tag it with one simple little click shows me that you are all about making my life as easy and wonderful as possible. What more could a girl ask for?

SWOON.

del.icio.us is great for everyone… but ESPECIALLY for brides.

I mean admit it–you spend hours and hours surfing the web shopping for the perfect dress/shoes/favors etc. or looking for inspiration. I know I do.

If you’re using del.icio.us, you can create a bookmark list that is so perfect, so organized, so easy to manage, it will bring a tear to the eye of every obsessive compulsive bride out there. I guarantee it.

To show you what I mean, here’s a glimpse at my del.ici.ous ‘homepage’ (Click to enlarge):

The beauty becomes clear if you take a look at my wedding-related links… all lovingly tagged and categorized (Click to enlarge):

(Obviously to date, most of my wedding research has centered around photos and shoes, hee hee.)

So now, if along my web travels I run across something particularly interesting that I want to remember, I just click and del.icio.us it!

If you think this sounds complicated, trust me, it’s not.

Let’s say you were surfing around and stumbled across a red shoe to wear with your wedding dress that was so drop-dead gorgeous your mouth, uh, dropped. Obviously you want to save the link so you can go back and drool over it later.

You’d simply click on the Tag button on your toolbar (via a toolbar extension) and in the box that pops up, you’d enter the tag you want to save the link under and click Save. (Click to enlarge)

Et voila!

del.icio.us will change your life, I swear. I love it so much. You can even check out your friends’ bookmarks and tag links you find for them, and use it as a search tool too! and oh… I could go on and on.

Did I mention that it’s FREE? No? Oh, sorry. It is.

Sign up for a free del.icio.us account here or learn more about it here. Also, if you have an old del.ici.ous account that’s been gathering dust, you may want to revisit it because the site recently got an awesome face lift.

Happy bookmarking!

Is there a web tool for wedding planning that you simply couldn’t live without? How do you stay organized?

delicious is my best wedding friend ever! (and for other things like recipes, inspiration, diy tips, etc!). It’s even nicer now that they’ve started using the domain, delicious.com!

@Habibi: I’m using a Google Docs spreadsheet. I love that I can access it from any computer.

@Miss Avocado: I’ve heard that’s nifty. I had already been bewitched by Delicious when I heard about it though, hee hee. I do love all things G-related!

@Erica: You’re right. And just when I had finally figured out where to put those darn periods…

That’s the best explanation I’ve ever seen for the del.icio.us service. It can be confusing to the uninitiated, and the way you have explained it is just perfect. Later tonight I’ll transfer all my bookmarks in Firefox over to my little (but soon to change) del.icio.us account.

Thanks!

I can’t live without my fiance. He organizes me. He creates spreadsheets in excel, based on so many different themes. I just enter the data (which he reminds me to do after making a purchase or confirming an appointment) and everything else updates.
He thinks of it as his major contribution to the wedding planning. And it really is important! Plus, he’s always in the loop of planning! (Totally lazy on my part, I know)

Thank you so much for this post! I set up a del.icio.us account a few weeks ago, but wasn’t really sure how to best use it. I have spent the whole morning moving my favorites to del.icio.us, and I feel even more organized. I really like the tagging system. That way I can file things in more than one “folder”, so when my wedding-fried brain can’t remember exactly where I put it, I’ll have a better chance of finding it more quickly. Also, I used this to organize the starred items in my Google Reader…so nice!
