About Mr. Mango

Hey! You look like me!

August 11th, 2008 @ 10:33 am by Mr. Mango

I’m still confused as to whether or not I should have my groomsmen wear the same suit/tie to the Nikkah ceremony. As of right now, they are all wearing the same shalwar kameez to the mehndi (like the one pictured below).

I began searching for possibilities for things like ties and dress shirts. I wound up on etsy.com, which many soon-to-be brides have been raving about. For guys out there, it’s basically a place where anyone can sell handmade items. So all of you out there that feel like your play-dough sculptures are a work of pure art, go ahead and sign up. A few people I’ve met recently actually sell jewelry on the site.

Anyhow, I came across a very cool seller by the name of “Cyberoptix TieLab” (etsy user: toybreaker). They specialize in funky neck ties. And I have to say, I’m quite impressed with their funkness.

Exhibit A: The Engine Tie

How cool is this ?! There is an engine on the tie!

Oh, and look at the way they package them:

Exhibit B: Watch out for the gas!

I love the screen printing on these. However, I don’t think Ms. Mango would be so fond of these ties on every groomsman.

Exhibit C: Make some music yo!

Anyone who has dabbled in a bit of techno, house, and/or electronica knows how important synthesizers are. This homage to the tool of the trade is just plain hot.

Hmm… too much temptation. How could I not have my groomsmen wear something outrageously radical like these ties? Something to think about…

Do you know of any other unique tie sources?

I wish my DH was like you during the wedding planning stages. A man who pays attention to and cares about the details! PS - those ties are cool too.

We’re using their silver ties with Marie Antoinette’s seal on the front. If the fellas are wearing vests or jackets, many of the graphics will be concealed and the ties will read very classic and dignified. But, when the jackets come off…totally cool. And they’ll totally wear them again. Do it!

We are using those synthesizer ties! FH loves techno and his brother/best man is a groomsman, so how perfect could it get?

Oops, a DJ (but of course, as best man, he is also a groomsman..!)

The grrom and best man are engineers and they are wearing the gears tie from Cyberoptix. The gears show just above where the jackets button and it looks really cool especially since their suits are not very formal.
The dads got the clipper ship ties. The ship doesn’t show until they open their jackets. There are all awesome!

I got Mr. Pom one of their Love Bomb ties for v-day a few years ago and he LOVED it.

Ms. Gingerbread 2.0 and my husband both sported toybreakers gorgeous ties for our weddings, and I think other Bees have considered them in their wedding parties, too. The colour (”sage”) wasn’t quite what I expected (a little lime-ier than sage, in my opinion,) but we ran with it anyway. I got myself a scarf, too.

This is the vendor we used for our wedding, and the guys looked fabulous and the ties came out perfectly!

Although, one note on packaging: They don’t actually arrive as pictured. If you order a lot of ties, they will all come packaged together and you’ll need to rewrap them individually for gifting.

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments - I’m the tie maker lady here! :) Just a quick note on a few of the comments - we now offer swatch cards for a nominal fee, so if you are unsure about a color at all, we can get one in the mail to you the next day. It’s so hard to tell colors in photos and across different monitors, we’re trying to make that whole process lots better.

As for the packaging, I’m so sorry that it wasn’t clear about how they came - each whole *order* is packed gift wrapped, not the individual ties themselves. Many apologies for not being clear, I never intended to mis-represent. We can certainly wrap each one of the recipient wishes, just make a note of that when you check out. We like to think of the wrapping as a lovely little extra for the stressed out bride/groom to be. Since most people like to check out/inspect them all I guess I had never thought of them staying wrapped until the party saw them for the first time…I’m so sorry! :(

We’re also about to release some boxed options as well.

Thanks again, it has been a pleasure to be spoken of so highly.
