A few weeks ago, I met with Carole Kenney to start the fitting and development of my dream dress. We had a dress concept in mind, but no pattern, so everything will be created on the fly. Carole likes to start at the top and work her way down, so of course we began with the bodice.

The first stage of my dress bodice.

A side view of the surplus underarms.
Carole had me try on the bodice and we played with how it fit on my body (sorry no naked pics of Miss Pom, that temporary fabric is SHEER). We shortened the straps and played with the angle of the underarm fabric so as to reduce any gaps, and added a few more darts on the bust for a closer fit. I also decided to go with a lower neckline to accentuate my um, better features. ’Cause hey, we’re not getting married in a church!

Here’s an example of how the bust line will sit—a nice deep-V.
The best part about my visit to Carole’s studio? My dress fabric had arrived! Everything was so soft and luxurious. I loved my fabrics and I wanted to take them home with me.

From top to bottom: double-faced satin, silk georgette, and silk organza that Carole will be pleating herself.
I have another dress fitting today, and there may be a skirt involved! I cannot tell you how excited I am to see more of my dress. It’s so fun to see it evolve right before my eyes, and also to see it fitting so well to my frame.
Stay tuned for another episode of Project Pomway coming soon to a hive near you!
How exciting! I haven’t been keeping up with Project Runway this season, and this is SO MUCH BETTER!
