About Mrs. Pomegranate

A few weeks ago, I met with Carole Kenney to start the fitting and development of my dream dress. We had a dress concept in mind, but no pattern, so everything will be created on the fly. Carole likes to start at the top and work her way down, so of course we began with the bodice.

Carole had me try on the bodice and we played with how it fit on my body (sorry no naked pics of Miss Pom, that temporary fabric is SHEER). We shortened the straps and played with the angle of the underarm fabric so as to reduce any gaps, and added a few more darts on the bust for a closer fit. I also decided to go with a lower neckline to accentuate my um, better features. ’Cause hey, we’re not getting married in a church!

Here’s an example of how the bust line will sit—a nice deep-V.

The best part about my visit to Carole’s studio? My dress fabric had arrived! Everything was so soft and luxurious. I loved my fabrics and I wanted to take them home with me.

From top to bottom: double-faced satin, silk georgette, and silk organza that Carole will be pleating herself.

I have another dress fitting today, and there may be a skirt involved! I cannot tell you how excited I am to see more of my dress. It’s so fun to see it evolve right before my eyes, and also to see it fitting so well to my frame.

Stay tuned for another episode of Project Pomway coming soon to a hive near you!

Pom!!! Carole designed my dress and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! It was based off of a Paloma Blanca design and it’s sooo beautiful! I get to take it home a week from today and we leave for Hawaii a week from Thursday.

I remember when I was in the beginning stages and I worried about how it was going to all come together. I’ve never had anything custom made before. She did a really fabu job!

Next time you see her tell her Melissa loves her dress! It’s the fitted cream colored one with the red sash :)

I’m in Sacramento too and have an idea for a dress and I of course can’t find it anywhere so I’m thinking about getting it made. For those of you that have had or are having your dresses made I have two questions for you.
1) Do you feel that it costs more for your dress to be made? Any insight would help tremendously.

2) How did you find your dress maker and would you recommend them?

@Littlefoot: Carole says “Hi!” She showed me your dress yesterday - OMG it’s GORGEOUS! I love the red sash. Make sure to post your photos on the WB Pics board after your wedding. I’d love to see it in action!

@Christine: 1) In regards to the cost, it all depends on what kind of dress you’re looking for. For me, it was cost effective to have her make it because the dress I fell in love with would have cost me two to three times as much. Plus, I’m getting a dress that fits MY body and I won’t need alterations afterwards.

2) Carole Kenney Design is making my dress and also made Littlefoot’s dress per the above comment. She is incredible to work with, is extremely talented and really creative.

I agree 100% with Miss Pom! The dress would have been about twice as much at the bridal shop (I shopped around to compare prices before I made a decision) and that doesn’t include the alterations I would have needed. Carole gave me a great price and worked very closely with my specifications. She even added a built in bra WITH a little padding (never hurt a B-cup girl like me!) so my upper body can go commando and my girls will be nice and perky for the big day!

I’ll be sure to post pics! I wish I could wear it now!! I have red satin shoes that match the sash perfectly :)

Can’t wait to see yours either Pom!!!
