Mrs. Champagne's Picture
Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…
About Mrs. Champagne

I’ve been a little gaga over the idea of the perfect mantilla veil. I can’t help it. It just excites me. It gets my blood a-runnin’ and my heart a-thumpin’. That is, until today when a coworker asked me about my dress. I had forgotten how much I loved my dress! You’ve seen the styles I was interested in, but unfortunately non of them actually were “the one.” I had an unbelievable time in Boston during what can only be described as the most intense dress weekend.

Dress shopping was so much fun for me, and it was all thanks to my FMIL and future sisters! I was whisked away to Boston a few months ago for what would be known as “wedding weekend.” I was greeted with a tiara, my special bride bag, and a full glass of champagne. I told you I love champagne!

I had both a wine glass and a champagne glass with a sticker reading “the dress” on them!
My bride’s bag had various goodies, including a white umbrella just in case it snowed (Boston in March= snow)!

Every bride has to wear a tiara at least once, right?

This trip was a quick one for me, so it had to be very organized. My FMIL had arranged several appointments in and around the Boston area, and I was ready to go! I had never tried on a wedding dress before, so this was uncharted shopping territory for me- a rare occasion.

So here was the itinerary given to me by my FMIL:

Friday:
9 AM Yolanda’s
11 AM Le Riene’s
1 PM Allegria’s
2:30/3 PM Allure
4 PM Terry’s Bridal Boutique
After 5 PM - dinner, wine, laughs…

Saturday:
10 AM Sueno [Rhode Island]
11:30 AM House of Brides [RI]
2 PM Bridals by Rochelle
3:30 PM Pronuptia
5 PM - Party at home, naps are allowed if needed. Dinner, movies, silliness, more champagne & whatever the bride wants to do!

Sunday:
Morning - the bride gets to sleep in!
2 PM Ana Hernandez
4 PM Priscilla’s
After 5 PM - dinner & then off to the airport… happy bride-to-be in flight!

** TEAM BRIDE champagne breaks available on request at any time during the grand tour! **

Pretty intense huh? I told you it was! After several bridal stores and even more champagne breaks, I even considered ditching the mantilla veil for a little birdcage fun. How many glasses did I have, exactly!?

More to come on the dress extravaganza… believe it or not, there was ANOTHER dress weekend!

How many dresses did you try before you knew you’d found “the one?” Surely I’m not the first bride to try on, oh- say 100 dresses…

I tried on 2. I still have only tried on 2. Ever. And I have regretted not buying dress #1 before. I loved it equally as much as dress #2. When you know, you know, right? :)

My goodness, that is an intense weekend. :) I was really overwhelmed when it came to trying everything on - especially because I didn’t have a huge budget to work with. I ended up completely LOVING my dress (though I did go over budget a little).

@rhodeygirl: I found mine at Pronuptia Bridal.. They were super nice and had the best price!

I went to at least 10 stores and tried on MANY dresses at each. Even though people advised me to try the ones I couldn’t see myself in (which I did) I also narrowed it down to the right shape (trumpet) pretty quickly and that was what I was searching for at all stores. :)

I’ve been to more than 10 stores and I’m sure I’ve tried on over 100 dresses. Went to basically a huge warehouse store first and tried on all shapes and sizes before narrowing it to the right silhouette, but even in that silhouette not all dresses looked good. And it took me trying on “the one” at THREE different stores to finally decide, yep, this one is it. It also took me seeing pics of myself in dresses I thought were wonderful to realize that not all of them were actually that flattering. I didn’t have a “this is the one” moment, it was more of a slow burn, and when I tried it on the second time, I got goose bumps and chills!!

what a schedule! at least you had all those champagne breaks in between, yeah? :) i love the mermaid style. mine is fitted the same way, but doesn’t have a big flair at the bottom. i hope i won’t have to sit too long in it! LoL

I don’t even remember how many dresses I tried on before I found “the one”. I ended up purchasing my dress from La Reine’s.

I can identify with you in spirit(s)–whenever I or my bridesmaid bought a dress for each other’s wedding, we’d take ourselves out for drinks. It’s become quite the tradition, as we’re in each other’s weddings…so it’s pretty sweet.

But that is one intense dress weekend…mine was much more laid back.

I only went to 2 stores- I LOVE my dress but do wish I would’ve/could’ve extended the fun experience of trying on dresses! I happened upon a trunk show and couldn’t pass up buying my dress with the discount (that afforded me a change in the neckline, my veil and slip essentially at no charge!)

I went to seven bridal stores (a lot of the same ones you did: Vows in Newton, La Reine in Waltham, Tulle in Martha’s Vineyard, Priscilla of Boston, L’Elite, Sabella Couture, and Ana Hernandez in Boson) and all the stores in the Pru. After trying on so many dresses, I was beginning to think I was never going to be one of those brides who put on a dress and just “knew” it was right. I figured I was too analytical for that.

But I ended up falling in love with one at Ana Hernandez. I knew the moment I put it on that it was MY WEDDING DRESS! We went to the Red Sox game to celebrate, and I have never looked back! The ONE is out there, and you’ll know it!
