About Mrs. Espresso

And the Invites are Done!

August 12th, 2008 @ 3:10 pm by Mrs. Espresso

Let’s see, where did we leave off? Oh that’s right- I was staring at my box of invitations thinking, “I could polish this off tonight.” Muahahahahahahaha… oh contrare.

In fact, I dedicated every night after work to them. And my workspace quickly transformed into the mess that is this.

First thing I realized when I sat down to assemble our invites… oh my gosh, we forgot to hire a calligrapher! Yes - I do realize that most people would remember an important detail such as this way before my light bulb moment, but I’d had a lot on my mind and I guess… that wasn’t one of them. What would our invites look like now? Would they think a little kid addressed them? Would they all be slanted up diagonally? Would I ruin them? Ah!

This is when I went to my bedroom and called Mr. Espresso to vent. And it was in hearing myself say the problem out loud that I realized… really? Was I really stressing over handwriting on an envelope? I’d never received a wedding invitation with calligraphy on the envelope before. So why was I so worried that people were going to look down on ours? My mind had been wedding warped - time to relax.

So I poured myself a strong cup of this:

Started on a bag of these:

(they’re completely gone now by the way)

And got to work.

Here is my printed out Guest List from the Knot and my address book.

And here is an example of what our envelopes looked like without the touch of professional calligraphy. Not my best handwriting example- but still somewhat decent looking.

After addressing all of the invites, my hands were way too tired to address the RSVP envelopes as well, so… I used my resources and gathered all of the address labels I’ve received from different organizations over the past couple years. And believe me- there were plenty to go around! I tried to pick the ones that identified with our theme the most, but really, even if they weren’t perfect I didn’t care… as long as they weren’t the monkey ones… couldn’t have his side of the family thinking I’d gone completely crazy. :) The size was also perfect for the envelopes and the process went by very quickly. There they are on the right.

Once I completed all of the invitations, the time had come for our special detail. On the back of all our invites, we stamped an R (First letter of our new last name… or at least mine. :) I couldn’t decide between the green and bronze ink so I bought both. I stamped all the green ones and Mr. Espresso stamped all the bronze ones.

And here they are!

Well… half of them.

And I couldn’t resist- had to show you the picture of Mr. Espresso doing his little dance… he was very proud of his bronze R’s.

Is there any aspect of your wedding invitations that you stressed out over?

I’m so glad you just handwrote yours too - I’m not the only one!

@MrsDavis: That is great news. I could really use some return labels for our thank you cards (I’ve been hand writing them!)

@Laura: I only got to use them on 1/3 of envelopes b/c that’s all the post office had… and I procrastinated in purchasing them ;)

It is an invitation parade here at weddingbee lately. I have a BM who volunteered to hand address all 300 of my invitations with her pretty calligraphy. I am only going to make her do 75 of them though, because I don’t hate her.
