Mrs. Shortcake's Picture
Mrs. Shortcake, Vancouver Age and Occupation: 24, Marketing Manager/Children's Lit Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Master's Student/Personal Trainer Engagement Date: August 7, 2007 Wedding Date: October 2008 Blogging Since: Venue: Ceremony in a historic church, tented lawn reception at a golf and country club About Me: 1950's housewife sent to the future, reborn as crafting-obsessed, jill of all trades. I enjoy decorating, writing, baking sweet things, singing show tunes/dancing in public, wearing pearls, and knitting sweaters for my furbaby, Harvey, to chew upon. I heart pink, and believe that sparkles are the new black.
About Mrs. Shortcake

Because of the long nature of our engagement (over a year), my mind has developed the unpleasant propensity for flip-flopping like a flap-jack over any and every decision.

Besides causing an inordinate amount of stress, my unflinchingly flakey mind has been responsible for some of the biggest wedding changes. Happily, many of these changes are for the better:

Example A: Deciding that a pastel palette would be inappropriate for an autumn affair

RESULT: New retro colour scheme!

Example B: Deciding that a dress bought off of eBay in a pique of post-engagement budgeting excitement probably wasn’t the one, if only because it, to quote youngest sister shortcake, “screamed 1980s”

RESULT: blowing the budget and buying a dress I loved.

Example C: Deciding that Mr. Shortcake couldn’t wear white after labour day without looking like the hired help, then deciding that his first black-tux bow tie ensemble was not the one either.

RESULT: See for yourself!

(in sample sizes, not actual tux. Mr. Shortcake wears a peak-lapel tuxedo jacket, a white wing-collar shirt, black satin bow tie and cummerbund, black suspenders, and flat front tuxedo pants)

Have you reversed any of your wedding decisions or plans lately? Why?

Oh my gosh , have I.

So far we’ve changed venues (um… lost part of the deposit), changed format (from immediate family only at the ceremony to extended family and a few friends), changed centerpieces (from flowers to cupcakes on each table to tall vases with curly willow and hydrangea).

I’m trying to get the future Mr. to drop our photographer too — they’ve gotten a bit too sassy for my tastes.

Oh, and I want/need to change the color palette, just haven’t done it yet.

I thought I was just indecisive and impulsive. Now I know I’m not the only one! Thanks Shortcakes!

You are lucky.

I wish I could make a decision PERIOD.

LOL

I’m having problems coming up with a reception site, and I feel like I can’t do anything else with the place. UGH!

I keep on flipping back and forth on the shoes. I’m like freaking golidlocks and the three bears over here!

So far I have:

A pair of ivory heels are too small
A pair of ivory flats that are too big
A pair of fuschia ones that are just right!

I can remedy the ivory flats with foot petals, but the ivory heels fuggedaboutit!

My mom likes to give me a hard time about how I talked about a non-sparkly, spaghetti-strapped dress for months…then I saw a friend in sparkles and ended up with a sparkly strapless princess dress. We changed the wedding city three times and the date three times, but now we’re locked in and it’s all good.

I’m majorly indecisive, so it makes the planning much harder than it should be. :(

Oh its so good to hear from another flighty bride. I thought I was the only one! I’ve second guessed just about every decision that has been made and can’t wait for the big day to be here already.

you sound JUST like me! Long engagements are NOT for girls who are indecisive. I’ve changed the date, color scheme, theme, and location about 692 times, much to my FH’s dismay. My sister’s advice? “put down deposits on what you currently want, then you can’t back out.”

*sigh* eloping is looking better and better.

You know what’s weird? I have been planning for a year, and I thought a lot would change during that time. But when I match up my original inspiration board I put together last October with the reality of what I bought/created/hired - it is almost exactly the same. I have no idea how that happened… I usually have a very hard time making up my mind :)

I decided to redesign our invites….only to end up using the first one I designed….

I changed my mind on cylinder vases and have now opted for blumebox vases.

I’m sure I’ll change my mind on a hundred more things.

I am forcing myself to stick with my decisions, if only for my sanity, but I have wanted to change just about every decision at this point!! I did add an extra favor to our picture frame place card holders after realizing they will probably get tossed…We are giving away cookies and individual servings of milk as midnight snacks:)

I’ve changed a lot of times and i still have 10 months to go so we’ll see.

Changed from a muted pallete to a jewel toned one. I felt it was more “me”. Thought I would have a lot of florals and now I’m hardly doing any. Changed the guys from cream colored suits to navy. Orginally wanted music from an ipod but decided to get a DJ. Thought I would do a big fancy cake and now i want to do several small ones. I probably will change most of these decisions again before its over!

You are SO not alone!

We’re changing our menu because FSIL had a shot gun wedding which they planned in about 30 days and they served a few things they knew FULL well were on our menu. They had chocolate fondue and I’m still having a chocolate fountain to go with our chocolate theme but the custom M&M’s are likey not going to make it to our chocolate buffet as she used those as here favors…even though she knew we had ALREADY ordered them!! *taking deep breaths*

I’m just thankful they moved to Germany 2 weeks ago, which was 2 weeks after their wedding. Now I’m secretly hoping her daddy doesn’t pay for them to come to our wedding because her own brother is “over” her right now. *still deep breathing- while stepping off soap box*

Indecision? May or may not be my problem. ;)

I’ve been engaged for a few weeks. Have a dress, but was talked into it. Flip-flopping on color schemes (apple, then Tiffany blue, now light blue, but don’t tell the future Mr. that i am thinking about Tiffany blue again!). Cannot decide on a bridesmaid dress or color so my maids can choose their dresses.

I really have a hard time making decisions about LUNCH, so a wedding? Ha. SO DIFFICULT! lol.

Finally someone who shares my pain of indecisiveness. I got engaged 8 months ago, and have changed choices amillion times, and still haven’t got up the nerve to put money down on anything yet, because i am soooo worried i will change my mind again. Oh and the fact that I STILL can’t decide on a wedding date.
