Oh Happy Day: Getting Ready
Oh Happy Day: Getting in the Door
————————————————–
After Mr. Toucan passed his series of tests, he got to come in the house and find me—and he did!
Originally, I had wanted our first look to be outside in my parents’ yard so that our photographer could easily get pictures of this little event. Unfortunately, it had rained the night before, and the ground was still wet. I didn’t want to risk soiling my dress, so inside my parents’ room it was (my room at my parents’ house was a disaster area!).
After a few almost-tears and a kiss, Mr. Toucan and I checked each other out!
Before we left for the church, we went downstairs to serve my parents tea.
Serving my parents tea on our wedding day was a sign of respect and a symbol of gratitude for raising me.

After being served the tea, my parents handed us red pockets with money (lai see or hong bao) for good luck and good wishes for future prosperity.

Now, it’s my turn:
Daddy Toucan is a big fan of the HI-FIVE, so in addition to a red pocket, I got something a little extra too:
After, I served tea to Mommy Toucan:
Then, we took on quick group picture (which I think happens to be my favorite “formal” with my parents):
And then, we were all set!
Next up, we’re off to the church!
