Without further ado, the design for our Save the Date postcards:

The wording is changed for privacy reasons, but our heads really were cut off for the STD design! We used a photo from our engagement session that I will blog about very soon!
For the STD, we kept the design super-simple, and only added information about one of the four hotel blocks we booked on the back. Our guests are all pretty internet-savvy, so we assumed they would be able to find the information they needed from the website.
Since we printed on both sides, we mailed the postcards out in Astrobright envelopes we ordered online at EnvelopeMall (in the “Re-Entry Red” color). I loved EnvelopeMall- really great prices, fast and cheap shipping, so I highly recommend them!
Knowing how dodgy our handwriting is, I made clear labels for the addresses and our return labels, using the same fonts from the STD design- Honey Script for the names, and Mary Jane for the addresses. It came out pretty well, and I don’t think it looked tacky at all. (I probably should have done labels for our invitations… but that’s for another post!)
This little DIY project was all pretty painless except for one thing I didn’t count on: it seems there was a misunderstanding among some family members about exactly what this mailing was. I realized after the fact that we didn’t put the actual words “Save the Date” on our cards, but I hoped that the wording “invitation to follow” would make it obvious this wasn’t the real invite to the wedding. Still, I got a facebook(!) message from one of my aunts pointing out my “failure to include the important information” on the cards, ie where the ceremony and reception are. Even though it’s listed on the website… and there are invites going out… I guess I will just have to accept this as a generational thing. Did any of you encounter this confusion among older guests?
What do you think about our Save the Dates? Not bad for our first DIY effort, right? It was very cost-effective going through VistaPrint and EnvelopeMall, so I think the most we spent was on the postage! I know our STDs aren’t as snazzy as some others, but they did the job for the most part, so I can’t complain
* Title of this post to be said in the voice of Kenny Crandall from the seminal flick Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead
Lol, I love your reference to “don’t tell mom…” - that was one of my favorite movies growing up. I think I still have the VHS somewhere.

p.s. I really think the pic is so unique and cute!
