The White Dress… or Pearl in My Case

August 13th, 2008 @ 12:01 pm by Mrs. Espresso

Time for the big reveal. I’ve kept my dress a secret until now, but here we go- let’s just get on with it. :)

I went to 3 bridal stores before finding, “the one” as my mom likes to call it. The first store was too expensive (but Jenny Lee I loved the way you fit!). The second had nothing I loved. And the third… was Marry Me Bridal in Orange. I went there determined I wasn’t going to find anything, and I ended up buying the very first one I picked out.

Mr. Espresso I don’t think you’re reading, but if you are, STOP now.

Here I am at my first fitting last Saturday.

My gown is from Mikaella Bridal. I love the pearl color and the low v back.

And although I’m not very girly, I love the bow and detailing on the front. Originally there was a brooch in the center of the bow, but I think it looks better without it.

Here’s a better look at the front.

And here I am poking and pulling at the pins… I’m sure my seamstress wouldn’t appreciate seeing this picture. :)

My dress is nothing like I imagined it would be. But it’s fancy enough that I Love it for our wedding, and simple enough that it still feels like me.

Did you go with something different than you were expecting as well?

I love ruching and draping, Miss Espresso! What’s the material? It looks like satin?

You look gorgeous! The dress is amazing and I love the bow, but what I’m really jealous of is your hair. I can only imagine how great it will look on the big day!

I thought I’d get a simple silk shantung a-line dress, and ended up with a beautiful Vera Wang with rushing and a train!

It looks perfect for you — simple but sooo elegant and beautiful! I too love the color! You look radiant and are going to be a beautiful bride!

Lillindy says:

Stunning dress! And your waist looks so tiny in it, perfect hourglass! How would you describe the pearl color? My dress is pearl but it’s been so long I don’t remember what it looks like and my dress isn’t here yet. Would you say it’s closer to white or ivory?

Becky says:

Just beautiful! I went with something MUCH different than expected. I originally planned on NO strapless (I have DDs and was worried about constant tugging), but I of course found and fell in love with a strapless dress. For the reception, my seamstress made removable straps, which I was really grateful for because I could dance without worries.

My goodness girl, you look FABU and that was just a fitting. Not only does the dress look good on but your hair is amazing! Seriously.

Anyway…I totally ended up with a dress I never thought I would like. It was the first of its style I tried and I didn’t want to take it off.

Courtney says:

Your dress is beautiful and you are stunning!

I went in saying no strapless, no train, no sparkle and got the exact opposite. Our wedding is in my parents’ backyard so it may be a bit much but I love it. I guess you never know until you try it on.

:GASP: That dress is gorgeous on you!! I love it! :D

Paula says:

Love it. I went with something completely different. I first though light and flowy and ended up with something light but more structured, with roushing and brooche from Paloma Blanca (they’re the same company as Mikaella, I believe.

jennred782 says:

I thought I wanted something really simple and I didn’t like pick ups. What did I buy a dress with pick ups lace and beading hahahaha but I LOVE it. Mikaella was a brand that I loved also such great fabric and lines in all the dresses

I went for something very much different than I anticipated - I am getting one extremely similar to your own! The main differences are that there is less draping below the bra-line, and it has a trumpet skirt. Beautiful!

I went with something totally different. It shocked my mother. I usually hate lace and frills and poofiness. My dress had a ton of lace. What can ya say “The heart wants what the heart wants”.

Miss Espresso says:

Thank- you all so much! Seriously- what better hive could a girl ask for?! All your kind words boost my confidence that Mr. Espresso will like my dress as well. And next time I have a bad day- I’m coming back to these comments for a pick me up :) Love you all!

@MagPie518: Is it terrible that I had to ask my mom? It’s taffeta believe it or not- something I swore I didn’t want
@Lillindy: Thank- you! My seamstress said I couldn’t gain any more weight which made me really sad about the tub of malt balls I just bought…and that I’m still eating :)
@Becky: I originally didn’t want a strapless either. That’s so awesome that she made removable straps for you though!
@Courtney: I love backyard weddings. And who said you can’t be all dolled up in your own backyard? ;)
@Paula: I just found that out too!
@Miss Avocado: hhhmmm I don’t know. I must contemplate this matter
@PrettyKitty: It honestly doesn’t look too promising from the outside but they have a lot of options.
@Miss Green Tea: I definitely don’t hate you and you just called me a hot mama so I now love you :)

When I was looking through bridal magazines, I thought I wanted something loose and flowy, without any beads or very much details.
I totally surprised myself too. Mine has beads and a tight drop waist.
Yours is GORGEOUS. I really do love it. Especially the bottom, they’re not “pick-ups” but really great lines.
Love it.
