About Mrs. Green Tea

Dang It!

August 14th, 2008 @ 11:02 am by Mrs. Green Tea

I seriously considered buying a little Chinese dress for my newest future niece to match her older sister, but decided against it because she’s probably most comfortable in her soft and breathable baby clothes. Then today the mister emailed me this picture of us he had on his phone, and my heart sunk a tiny little bit at the slipped opportunity to dress up the prettiest baby in the world as a little China Doll!

Quick search for a red infant Chinese dress did not yield good results. I only found this one, but only size 1 is available (I guess that means for age 1?), boo!

It’s too close to the wedding to change my mind now. It’s best not to put more on my plate. I should stick to the original plan.

Right?? Right!! ….. right?

OMG, she’s so cute! Those cheeks! I don’t think there’s a need to find her a dress now, she’ll be adorable regardless of what she wears.

Oh, that’s a tough one - I bet she would be absolutely adorable. Maybe working on finding a great dress would keep you from stressing about other things.

She is tooooo cute!!!! Don’t go crazy finding one. I say if you find one you like, get it. Otherwise, it’s not the end of the world. Whatever that lil’ one wears is going to be outshined by how cute she is!!!

That is a baby who could wear an already spat-up-upon onesie and still work the cute. Don’t stress about it too much - just be excited that she’s coming to the wedding!

it’s not nearly the same, but the baby kimono tops are really popular for infants, I’d bet you could find a red one- or try some of these:

Oh my gosh — it’s bright red, comes in sizes from 12 mo - 10 years and is UNDER $20!

Check out the details on this white/blue one:

I say do it, but I also couldn’t resist getting my nieces a little dress in Chinatown (SF) with matching slippers.

Either way, I’m sure she’ll look adorable so you don’t need to stress about it if you don’t have time. BUT you do have weddingbee readers to do your searching!

Here’s a really great option I found, too.

Compromise is an option though, right? Maybe just get her some shoes or a bow in the beautiful Chinese fabric but let her still wear a comfortable dress.

make her a matching headband instead!

Well what size would she be?

She is so adorable! She’ll look great in whatever she wears. I have a baby and agree that that particular dress probably doesn’t look very comfortable for such a little one–and might be a pain for diaper changing.

That said, if you want to do some last-minute shopping…there are some super-cute, very soft and cozy Asian-inspired things on http://www.teacollection.com. It is more Japanese than Chinese, though. Examples:

or…how about some exquisite baby shoes??

There are lots of less expensive brocade shoes too if you google chinese brocade baby shoes.

Couldn’t you find some of that fabric and make a bow or something simple that can be worn with her normal baby outfit?

How old will she be at your wedding? Also, what does she weigh now? A size 1 is supposedly made for a 1 year old, but it just depends on the outfit honestly. My daughter wore some 0-3 month clothing when she was 9 months and some 12m stuff at the same age. It depends on the brand and what it is. To be honest, cheap stuff is smaller and more expensive brands tend to run larger. Not always the case, but it’s served me well over the past 4 years. The best thing to do is check with your FSIL and see how big that darling baby is right now and what size she’s wearing and what brand it is. If it’s Gap or something like that, you can check their sizes on the website and see if the dress would work.

This is very cute and it comes in a 12 month size which they list as fitting between 13-22 pounds. http://store.phoenixbuy.com/qp-003.html

Instead of a dress…why not a shirt…or pants suit?

wow you guys have some great ideas! the baby is i think 4-5 months old, but i don’t actually know her size. i thought about calling FSIL for the info but mr.GT thinks it’s best we just leave it alone since we’re so close to the wedding. thanks for everybody’s input!
