It’s My B-Day

August 14th, 2008 @ 3:25 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

I’m not talking birthday people - I’m talking boudoir day! After work today, I’ll be heading to a session with Lynn Michelle, a local photographer who seems to be very popular at doing boudoir shoots (I found her recommended quite a few times on the Knot boards). Lucky for me, I got quite the loot of outfits at my bachelorette to be able to pick and choose what I’m going to wear for the pics.

(picture found here)

To makes things a little fun, I also brought Mr. H’s favorite OLD sweatshirt that I’ll probably pair with a cute pair of undies. I really wanted to bring his signed hockey jersey, but if anything were to happen to it, he would be devastated (it’s one of his most prized possessions), so I settled for my much too big, unsigned jersey that I’ll pair with more cute panties. I figure he’ll be pretty happy as long as there is something hockey in a pic. :)

Another possible outfit that I brought is Mr. H’s wedding tie, my garter and my wedding shoes. I want to try to incorporate a few things that are Mr. H’s favorite things and something wedding, since that will be his second gift that I give to him on the wedding day. I’m super nervous about the shoot and I hope I relax enough to really get some good pics. I’m not a super shy person when it comes to my body, but everyone is their own worst critic at the end of the day. Let’s hope that Lynn Michelle has some mad photoshopping skills!

Are any of you planning a special boudoir photo session? What are some creative ideas for the pics?

I wore my veil in a few of my pictures, which turned out to be some of my favorites.

@ErinMarieMack: Totally agree! My veil pics came out best.

Miss H, have fun with it! I wish I had taken more risks with mine. And have a glass of champagne beforehand!

I did a boudoir shoot and made a book using Blurb to give my fi on our wedding day. I was super nervous as well, but it was one of the best experiences! I now consider it a gift to myself as well. When you get the pics back, it’s amazing! Good luck and drink a glass of champagne before you start to ease the nerves.

PS. Some of my shots are on my Knot bio… http://community.theknot.com/cs/ks/user/page.aspx?username=nfaufau

Ooh! I just did one! I haven’t seen the processed images yet, but the shots on the screen looked great! It was so much fun! My advice: don’t try too hard to look sexy. He’ll think you’re hot anyway, and the candid expressions will likely be his favorite ones.

My FI is a huge Ducks fan, so I love the hockey jersey idea!!! I think corsets and pearls look great together, maybe even one in all white lingerie, with a veil and little bouquet? Kind of a “Going to the Chapel” theme for the big day.

UGH I LOVE YOU! I’ve been looking so hard for a good, reputable boudoir photographer in Dallas! MISS H TO THE RESCUE! I’m jealous, have a ton of fun with it! There’s nothing for the self esteem like seeing yourself all sexified!

@missopie: You look sooooo beautiful!

I had never heard of a boudoir shoot before this post. Thanks, all, for enlightening me! :) I like the idea of sexy lingerie, as well as something that represents your fiance’s favorite *thing* - be it sports/hobby/whatever. I’ve just added boudoir photography on my list of things to do!

I love the idea of the Hockey Jersey. MY FI thinks it’s hot when I were any of his sport jerseys (football. hockey, baseball).

So I’ve heard this tossed around a few times, and I kind of like the idea, but my question is this: What do you do with the photos you get back? Are they just something neat to give your fiance?

I did the jersey thing - my photographer stood me in front of a big studio light so the light poured through the tiny little jersey holes and you could see the shadow of me through it, thye are some of my favorite shots, and I know they will be his too.

@HistoryBride - I skipped ordering prints and ordered a Blurb book to give my fiance -I’m sure he’ll love it.

@Jennifer: Thanks for the compliments! I got the polka-dot thing at Victoria’s Secret. It was a perfect piece to start the session with… not too revealing and I was able to play with the ruffle for some of the shots.

Are you going to be brave enough to share some shots with the hive?
