How Much is that Barrel in the Window?

August 15th, 2008 @ 11:53 am by Mrs. Espresso

A couple of months ago, I gave up the hope of having wine barrels as cocktail tables. I stashed the thought away in my “if we had more time and money” folder, and haven’t thought of it since… until Wednesday, that is.

Mr. Espresso called to tell me about his day (he was on a surfing vacation near Pismo with friends) and started talking about how they had just gotten back from picking up empty wine barrels for one of the guys. What?! I’ve been looking for those! Where did he get them? How much were they? Could we get some?

Whoa. I might have scared Mr. Espresso with my sudden interest, nay, obsession with wine barrels. But he talked to our friend and he’s going to let us borrow the four he just got… so now we have wine barrels as cocktail tables for free. YAY!

What have/ did you receive for your wedding that was free?

Yay free stuff! I got free palm fans. My FI’s mom’s friend (got that?! hehe) went to the Philippines to visit family and I had asked her to pick us up some palm fans for our hot, outdoor ceremony. I had looked online and they sell for $6.00 for 12, plus shipping. I knew I could about double that for the same cost from the Philippines. FI’s mom’s friend came back and gave them to us for free. Yay! It was awfully nice of her.

I got free invitations!! My FI’s uncles run a printing business and are giving them to us as our wedding present. I couldn’t be happier, that is such a financial load off!

I used my sister’s crinoline - it was nice to avoid that $150 purchase!

I just got free mason jars for our ceremony beverages from a bride who got married last weekend! I’m so excited to be saving money, and protecting the environment!

I work at a winery, and the wine barrels that we have sprinkled throughout the properties are some of the best “decorations” that we have. Triple-yay for them being free!

Most hotels will supply stage risers for the head table/cake table and or entertainment just for the asking. This creates a nice focal point to showcase and highlight these areas.
