Why DIY?

August 15th, 2008 @ 5:20 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

I’m a thoughts over fancies kind of girl, so this DIY postcard STD really impressed me:

A perfect illustration of the couple’s shared love for books and coffee shops, this photo was taken at the cafe table where they met and they even photoshopped their kitty on the paper!

Simple+ chic+ personal = elegance in my mind, and this is a great example of what I wish my own diy projects convey. I can’t deny that there’s a bit of a perfectionist in me and I sometimes focus a little too much on the details. But at the end of the wedding, I just hope our guests walk away with a feeling that the celebration was fun, personal, and that they are special to us. This has been our reason for making many of our wedding decisions, and a big part of why I put so much effort into so many of my own diy projects.

**Good job Aimee & Minh, and congratulations on your wedding this weekend! I wish you the just this kind of sweet success on your special day!**

Why do you DIY?

I DIY because very few things that are mass-marketed really represent us.

That being said, My DIYs tend to be simple or small because Martha I am not!

Wow. I’m so jealous of that STD. I wish I had thought of that for our books and coffee wedding. It’s awesome.

I DIY because I care a little. too. much. I want everyone who comes to the wedding to know that love, thought, and time was put into as many details as possible.

My DIYs started with invites and snowballed from there. Similar to what Starry-Eyed said, I had a hard time finding things that suited my (or should I say our) taste, so I did it up myself!

I’m a simple girl with simple tastes who simply wants everything to be perfect. :)
Really I think it is because I start out with a picture in my head of want and the only way to get it is to make it myself, or find someone who can handcrafted it for me.

I remember when Practical Bride posted this- so pretty!

I’ve always wanted to be more crafty, but alas, it’s not quite my forte. I try every now and then to save money and take on the challenge, but I also know my limits (no sewing!). Plus some things you just can’t find in the stores…

I’m not really very crafty but I love to DIY because I have really good ideas and it’s the only way I could to get them actualized. A personalized wedding certainly adds charm and gives a certain kind of fulfillment. It’s knowing that you took the extra mile to have your own stamp on (one of) the most important day of your lives :)

Once again, truly original! :) I love this!

I think I am doing a DIY wedding because I need to get all that creative energy out. I have been crafty since I can remember. I was the girl in school who always colored in the lines of my coloring book!

A task seems more “accomplished” when you put your heart, soul and full attention into it, instead of just paying someone else to do it or to buy it off the shelf. But let’s not kid ourselves, I’ve definitely had certain tasks left up to others!

Hey, thanks for all the kind words! Aimee and I are glad you liked the Save the Date!

As I told the practical wedding site:

A quick tip to any DIYers who are planning on using an image of a newspaper in your picture: READ THE PAPER FIRST. I had to reach deep into my bag of photoshop tricks to get rid of:

“Preparing for Lean Times: The Looming Recession”

“Euthanizing Horses”

and worst of all, “Ryan Seacrest”.
