About Mrs. Champagne

Crazy? Nah.

August 16th, 2008 @ 4:21 pm by Mrs. Champagne

I’m sure that many of you know your family can be a little nutty, so I can’t be completely alone here. Now there have been a few of my cousins and relatives that have had weddings in the past couple of years, and I’m not so sure I’m prepared for them to attend ours. I mean, I love my family… but MAN do they have fun.

exhibit B: Another cousin Mike and the bride’s garter

I honestly think the one thing that will completely save us is that Champ’s family is JUST AS CRAZY at weddings. In fact, there is an ongoing family tradition of a “surprise prop” at each family wedding. About a year and a half ago, we went to Champ’s cousin’s wedding. I was unaware of this surprise prop tradition until I was shot in the face with a water gun. Literally, eating my entree (chicken I’m sure), and I was hit with a hard stream of water- could have been vodka, who knows. I thought it was awesome, but I’m not so sure the bride’s family thought it was awesome… oops!

So I’m sure I can expect some shenanigans at our wedding, but I’m wondering what surprise prop we’ll see make its way into our reception…

Not so sure I’ll be doing the worm in a wedding dress, but I guess you never know….

My brother was married last summer and instead of the traditional champagne toast, they chose their favorite- tequila! Looks like Aunt Barb and perhaps the bridesmaids (I’m second from the left) may have had too much tequila at my brother’s wedding? NAH, just fun..

As much as I would love our wedding to be centered around romance and elegance, I believe a wedding should be a celebration of love… I’m so ready to celebrate!

Anyone else have any fun family traditions or crazy wedding stories?!

lol. these are great. i love fun weddings. DH’s family loves games and i love to play them. so it wasn’t complete if we didn’t have any. we did the kissing game where they have to demo a kiss everytime everyone cling the glass. we thought this would limit the clinking but i forgot… we have a bunch of single people wanting to put their friends on the spot and to be entertained. here’s the collage from my photographer.

and i found this game online to embarrass a few guests. they did a musical pass the dollar around. and who it lands is the one that plays simon said. they were very serious and a few rounds of those they dj announced “give the dollar back to who donated it because they are the ones that won the centerpiece.

ahh i love games.

omg your family seems like so much fun. My family is exactly the same. Everyone drinks, sings songs, plays games. In my family we have a tradition of a lot of toasts, (not speeches and not all at the same time). Throughout the wedding after someone makes a toast and everyone drinks, everyone yells “Bitter” because the alcohol is bitter. The bride and groom have to then kiss to sweeten everyone’s drink. I love fun family parties and weddings are no exceptions. I think although elegance is nice, stuffiness isn’t. You’re going to have so much fun with this bunch.

My cousin and her fiance are actually having shot glasses as their favors and instead of a champagne toast we are going to do a shot of tequila. Why do something just because it is tradition if you don’t like it. I am not a fan of champagne, and neither is FI, and we have a venue were we bring in our own alcohol we are going to forgo the champagne and have wine for the toast.

I love the weird props tradition! Who gets to decide what the weird prop is? Can I join your family for this discussion?! ;-P

@Miss Hot Cocoa: It’s usually Champ’s uncle who makes the final decision. You never know what he’ll come up with next!
