All You Need is Love

August 17th, 2008 @ 6:24 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

Hello! I can’t believe that it’s been over 8 months since my last post! I’ve been reading when I can, trying to keep up with all of the new bees, but it’s been a while since I had time to sit down and write something. And, to be honest, I haven’t felt witty or creative in ages so I’m sure I’ll be a bit rusty, hopefully you’ll forgive my slow start if I offer you lots of pictures!

I want to share pictures of a fantastic wedding that I went to last summer. As you might remember, Mr. Pumpkin is from a small farming community about 20 minutes outside of the city where I grew up and that is where this wedding was held. The bride is from this town but her groom is from Ottawa where they live now. Because of the distance, the guests were mostly locals and so the day was filled with the warmth and laughter that only comes when you have a room full of old friends and family.

Although I have no confirmation on this, I would guess that the budget was less than $5,000. The flowers were simple, the favours were homemade jam, the wedding was in the town church and the reception in the town hall, the buffet was prepared with love and served by friends, and it is by far one of the best weddings that I have ever been to! I wish that I had gone to this wedding before having my own because it reminded me what the day is supposed to be about - friends, family and above all, love. The rest is great too, but if you have those three key things, the rest is gravy.

The one picture of me in this batch!

This is the officiant - getting the party started! The dance floor was never empty after that.

Here’s hoping that you all have as wonderful a day as this was!

Welcome back Mrs. Pumpkin! I loved reading the re-caps of your wedding.

BTW, I wanna give a be-lated thanks for the reminder on getting the pink m&m’s for breast Cancer Awareness month. That was one of my first things to do when I got engaged in Feb!

Doh! I totally forgot the best part! I told you I was rusty…

By way of some backround, the bride went to Cornell and so had some of her American buddies at the wedding.

So, the DJ has just finished playing the last song which turned into a huge sing-a-long to either the Tragically Hip’s “Long Time Running” or “Fiddler’s Green”, I can’t remember which one, when the American buddies notice the words to “Oh Canada” painted on the wall of the hall and start singing it! Of course everyone else joined in and so the reception ended on a very patriotic note. Haha!

Completely strange but completely wonderful!

We had some friends get married here in Minnesota last summer. She is from MN and he is from Winipeg. For his speech at the reception, her dad came out in a Canada t-shirt and thanked everyone who made the drive for their big day. He then finished with a round of “Oh Candada”…to which all of the Canadian guests joined in. It was great!
