About candycorn

Mr. Candy Corn and I have been engaged for nearly four years (on September 1st) and I’ve just started wondering, why haven’t we ever done engagement photos? I guess I figured since I have hundreds of photos of us, we didn’t really need any more. However, my snapshots aren’t exactly wall-hanging material and I really wish we had some photos of us where one of us isn’t making a crazy face or getting into some sort of trouble (see example below):

Since our wedding is less than two months away and I’m well, for a lack of a better term, unemployed, we definitely can’t afford to sign up for a last-minute engagement photography session. I’d really love to have photos of us in our everyday wear and goofing around, being romantic. Am I the only one out there who realized a little too late the importance of engagement photography? After the wedding I’ll have to set aside some money for “newlywed photos.” I had no idea I would get a strong urge to take cutesy shots of Mr. Candy Corn piggybacking me through Philadelphia, but it has happened and there’s no denying it now!Here are some pictures that made me realize what all the hubbub is about engagement photos (yes, I actually used the word “hubbub”…you know you love it):

The Wiebners

Despite my piggyback infatuation, I love the moodier, uber-artistic shots just as much.

The Wiebners

This is a precious moment if I ever saw one.

Rock, paper, scissors!

I have a feeling I would be a lot like this bride-to-be, hiding behind Mr. Candy Corn’s shoulder.

I can’t explain my fascination with piggyback photos, but I find them to be so damn adorable!!

The Wiebners

Can’t. Resist. Piggyback. Cuteness.

Did anyone else realize the importance of engagement photos a little late in the game??

I’m lost…I thought you got your job back? Am I crazy?

I love the Rock, Paper, scissors pictures.

We realized that we wanted engagement pics 2 months before our wedding. Thankfully, I have a photographer friend snap a couple of photos of us while we were visiting my parents. They are among our favorite photos.

P.S. I love piggyback photos, too.

you and mr. cc are freaking adorable. newlywed shots might be a nice option…or perhaps finding an up and coming photog to shoot some for you?

i am also a huge fan of piggyback photos — my favorite pic of myself and FI is a piggyback photo on the beach…we’ll have to do an even better one during our engagement shoot!

What about contacting a local college and finding out if someone in the photography program is interested in building up their portfolio? My sister used to look for people to shoot with for free when she was first starting out and needed examples to show potential clients.

Good one, Miss Avo. I was going to suggest amateur photogs too, but going direct to the source is brilliant.

@KateMW:

I got my job back two weeks ago only to have them tell me that the company is officially over and that my last day would be this past Friday. le sigh. Filing for unemployment twice in two months=boo!

@Miss Avocado:
I had a lot of friends in college that did that to build up their wedding portfolio :)

We realized late that it would be nice, too (mainly because we were using a photo mat for a guest book and needed a picture of us to use in it at the wedding until we had a wedding portrait to put in there). We are amateur photography hounds, so we set up a tripod in our garden and took some couples shots with our blooming flowers in the background. Not as diverse nor as artistic as the ones you pay a lot of money for, but they were special to us because we took them and they included our garden. :) You seem artistic and creative; I bet you could do something great like that yourself! Just a thought . . . ! :D

you’re not alone! We’re talking about doing “anniversary shots” in about a year…a great idea if u regret missing out on e-pics, I think.

I was going to suggest having a friend snap some casual shots at a park nearby. They probably won’t have quite the feel of a professional photographer, but with digital cameras these days, you can still usually get some good shots. Especially if, going into it, you have some ideas of poses (which it looks like you do) that you would like to do.

Then use a simple program to do some minor editing (Picasa is a great program through google that can make a photo look 10 times better without having to know how to use Photoshop or other more intricate photo editing programs.) Then take the initiative to go and get some 4x 6 prints from Target or Costco!

Whether it be engagement or newly wed pictures, Scott Church shot our engagement pictures and is doing our wedding pictures. The engagement pictures cost $150 for the session, they did my hair, makeup, and I walked out with a CD & rights to print & reproduce any of the pictures I wanted. I live in Chester County, PA. Scott’s studio is in Lebanon but he’s willing to travel. :)

…not that you prob can’t just get Laura to do some shots.
